Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
Saints cross the magical 40-point barrier. In January.
We're staying up, lads.

Congrats, D. What looked to be a relegation battle after questionable player sell-offs, has turned into a bumper season.

It's pretty surreal. The club's hierarchy have been talking it up like everything has gone to plan and there was no panic during the summer exodus, but I'm not buying it.
If there was no panic, how did they end up shelling out £12 million on the useless Shane Long?
Well, we'll enjoy the ride for now. Next summer's exodus may well be equally as brutal...

A couple of fantastic goals by Timmy Cahill (one an overhead kick and the other a precision long header) to have Aus up 2-0 with 15 to play. Aus have been all over the Chinese in the 2nd half, playing some quality football.

Easy skulls ...
Sounds almost like what one would get from a Saffers v Afganistan game ..
"... de Villiers smites his 18th six off Abdullah ... whilst Amla hits his 24th ...
... 832 fer 1 wkt ... South Africa have been all over Afganistan in this match"
'Tis only China after all, mate!

relax, I've found it. China 97, Australia 100.
So, about the same as South Africa and Afghanistan in cricket.

No Asian team won a match in the WC. Is this the minnows tournament?

Britain isn't a FIFA confederation though (and hasn't had its own private international tournament since the mid 80s).

Aye, it's fairer to compare Australia's (ok) performance in the Asian cup with England's in the European Cup. England's is probably far better.
