How unAsian of you. Bang go your trade agreements with China. It's sweatshop prices flooding your market from now on.
Should have played for the honourable 1-2 defeat.

Iraq beat Iran on penalties 7-6, after it was locked at 3-3 after extra time. Cracking game in Canberra.

Well FMD, UAE beat Japan!!!!
So it's Aus v UAE in Newcastle and South Korea v Iraq in Sydney in the semis. Clearly the schedulers expected Aus to win its group and the QF and play in a Sydney semi.

You know it is all set up for an Aus choke with 19 chances being created and none taken

Perhaps. The Japanese did create lots of headed chances that Timmmmmmy would have buried

Does the UAE have tall defenders (I'd assume not)? Either way, Timmmehhhh's pogo-stick like leaps in the box usually gets him above the defenders anyway.

Had it on in the background, though pretty drunk, I do remember that Cambridge had something along the lines of 20% possession. Funny as ****** that United couldn’t score
Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
20% in second half I think, they matched them pretty well in the first (and had the best chance of the match).

Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
Anyway, United's result suddenly looks pretty good. Chelsea incredibly lose 4-2 at home to Bradford from 2-0 up... City dumped out by Boro... Spurs, Southampton and Swansea also shown the exit door.
Gerrard's dream farewell just moved a whole lot closer. Of course, Bolton could put paid to that in the next couple of hours! Anyone for a Heskey hat-trick?

1,750 to 1 .... the odds that ALL of the top 3 Prem League sides would get beaten yesterday!

Crackerjack 1st Half in tha Asian Cup semi with 2 early goals for Aus really making for an open game. UAE have very silky on-ball skills, This one's not over at 2-0 at oranges.
Hunter Stadium looks surprisingly good after all the rain they've had.

Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
Giving the Asia cup a lot of credit there. AFCON's at least has a very decent level of talent, although the football itself has been a bit shit this time.
Neither is exactly an event of world beaters (team wise, anyway), but both have their place...

Re: The Football Thread 2014/15
UAE basically owned 3/4 of the park in the 2nd Half but couldn't break down Aus's defence. Matt Ryan didn't have to make any save of note.
So 2-0 win takes Aus through to the Final next weekend v South Korea. They will need to be better than they played tonight to win that one.

Aye that was Aus's worst performance of the tournament. Defence was solid but they stopped playing football after the 35 minute mark
