I wish I could get excited about Queen's honours. But hailing Jimmy's award (for once, not "Other Buggers' Effort") basically just falls for the whole bloody system of party-dictated, royalty-blessed deference.
If any British govt wanted to do something genuinely to assure impartial assessments of merit, it would entrust the honours system to an independent organisation as free as possible of mutual shoulders-and-back friction.
So I'll just say: well done Jimmy Burnley. Keep bowling, son and nil carborundum. Even if they give you a knighthood, a lordship, an earldom, a fiefdom or a demeine, don't let it put you off.
