Harbhajan Singh racism controversy
Ponting turned down apology offer - Kumble
Cricinfo staff
January 8, 2008
Indian captain Anil Kumble has revealed that he had called up
Australian captain Ricky Ponting, after the third play's day of the
Sydney Test, requesting him to not press the charge of racism against
offspinner Harbhajan Singh. Kumble told a press conference in Canberra
on Wednesday that he, as captain, offered to apologise on Harbhajan's
behalf, if there was any offence caused.
Ponting, Kumble said, declined the offer and
said he wanted to see the process through after complaining to umpires
Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson at the end of the third day's play.

Why would he apologise if he didn't say anything wrong?

But I'm confused. If Harby didn't do anything wrong, what was apology going to be for? Being a dickhead?

They're taking a lead from the Board for Corruption of Cricket in India and working out their story so they can present it as a convoluted united front.

err..comment on what?
What kumble actually did was a smart thing.
What ever was said from bhajji, whether racist or not, Kumble offered an apology.

I told you. Now it'll only be a matter of minutes before the next member of the peanut gallery chimes in with something equally as moronic.

At times like these an <irony> tag is sorely needed.

No body claimed Bhajji didn't say anything taipan.
But what ever was said, even though it was not racist (as claimed by Indian side) Kumble offered an apology.
Atleast thats what I can make out of that article.

Doesn't really stop them for competing to find out who is the bigger prick.
Kumble apologised to Ponting on Bhajji's behalf so that the series would go on without all the brouhaha of a disciplinary hearing.
