It would do wonders for the aesthetics of the place if Plibersek did

So it's the Mad Monk v Mad Vlad at the G20:
Reminds me a bit of a Fish Called Wanda:
MM: That's right, I boxed for Oxford.
MV: I killed for the KGB.

Well the MV has Lambie on his side, so maybe Tony has a chance.

It was really a remarkably stupid thing for Abbott to say...even by his standards

Maybe he wasn't aware of a couple of meanings attached to the term.

In Rugby (ancient definition) it is more of an in your face, punctuated by grabbing a guy's shirtfront and pulling him close.
In AFL it's considered a bit of a low, even cowardly act isn't it?

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
a shirtfront in AFL is a hip and shoulder bump where the shoulder drives into the sternum of the opponent...can break ribs, crack the sternum and generally knock the stuffing out of the recipient...
maybe tho the PM meant lifting instead of front...makes a bit of sense, given the roles that Big George, Gloria and Bronny B have had on his career...wonder what Vlad makes of it all

Being a Spiv Rugger boy, I'm guessing TA was going with the former definition. When I first heard it, I thought it a remarkably aggressive thing to say (based on the AFL version which I am more familiar with) to one of the most powerful, egotistical and unstable leaders in the world.Bradman wrote:In Rugby (ancient definition) it is more of an in your face, punctuated by grabbing a guy's shirtfront and pulling him close.

I suspect he confused the term 'buttonhole' with 'shirtfront'.

I see the AMA has piped up to critise Abbott for spending more money fighting IS than fighting Ebola. I guess its a matter of perspective. IS have killed far more people than Ebola.
Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
he is spending more money looking for dead people at the bottom of the Indian ocean than he is on Ebola...Ebola has attracted the US' attention and of course if it rains on the white house umbrellas are unfurled in Canberra and a rain jacket is strapped to the Pyne attack poodle

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
You quote the guardian ...I'll quote Bolt ...the truth will be somewhere near the middle
Labor’s crazy politicking on ebola is politically driven and reckless. It seems Labor wants the Government to send over medical teams without being able to guarantee life-saving treatment is available should any become inflected, and without being sure we can protect Australians completely on their return.
Dennis Shanahan:
TANYA Plibersek is using fear of Ebola coming to Australia, compassion about thousands of deaths in west Africa and growing global alarm to differentiate Bill Shorten’s Labor from Tony Abbott on national security…
Plibersek is also appeasing large parts of the party, MPs and members, who feel that since the Islamic State threat emerged the Opposition Leader, and his left-wing deputy, have been too close to the Prime Minister on military action in Iraq…
Ebola provides Labor with a chance to criticise the government for not doing enough to help west Africans and to accuse Abbott of not being prepared to handle an emergency in Australia.
And trust the foul Greens, as ever, to play the race card:
TOM IGGULDEN: The Greens are accusing the Government of a cruel political calculation.
RICHARD DI NATALE, GREENS SENATOR: Because there are no votes in poor, black Africans dying.
UPDATE
Tanya Plibersek is exposed in a debate with Immigration Minister Scott Morrison on the Today show. Watch here. It is outrageous for Labor to peddle these deceptions.

allowing unchecked expansion of Ebola is irresponsible not just to people in the 3 main countries but elsewhere...without aid and quarantining, Ebola will cross borders and inevitably oceans...

in happier news the odious Bronny B was rolled in an election for a plum job in the parliamentary union...ironically by a Bangladeshi MP who was once a political prisoner and doubtlessly would have not gained asylum seeker status in Oz...
and in news that reminds me of the spy v spy cartoons in Mad, Oz's spies have been inadvertently spying on each other...see below

Apparently* Jackie Lambie just asked the Vice Chief of the ADF (in a Senate committee hearing) about the prospect of Ebola infected suicide bombers being used against Australia.

Are they a risk because their bodily fluids explode all over the joint?
Seriously, she needs to be put down.
