Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
Talk in Fairfax about a Ministerial reshuffle over the weekend because the Sinidinos situation with ICAC won't be resolved for several more months following the Cuneen case.

FFS! Abbott would be mad to put him back in even if he were cleared.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
It's started:
Sinodinos resigns as assistant treasurer
AAP 17 MIN AGO
Assistant Treasurer Arthur Sinodinos has resigned from the ministry.
The assistant treasurer stood aside earlier this year to address allegations raised in NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiries into the state Liberals.
The decision is expected to trigger a ministerial reshuffle.
The decision paves the way for Prime Minister Tony Abbott to reshuffle his frontbench as early as this weekend.
"I will be resigning as assistant treasurer with effect from close of business today," Senator Sinodinos said in a statement on Friday.
He had stood aside from the role to give evidence in NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiries.
"I am confident that when the reports are finally released, I will not be subject to any finding of corrupt conduct or illegality," he said.
As recently as September Treasurer Joe Hockey said he would like Mr Sinodinos to return to his ministerial role.
"Arthur is a wonderful person and a man of great personal integrity," Mr Hockey said.
"From my perspective I would like to have my assistant treasurer back, but these things need to be resolved."
According to The Australian, parliamentary secretary Josh Frydenberg is the favorite to replace Senator Sinodinos, though parliamentary secretary, Steve Ciobo is also being considered.

So how many controversial cuts/sackings/deals were pushed through by the government whilst the Sydney siege was taking place?

He'd certainly be better at selling the message.
And if he's just resigned does this mean he was being paid the kick the whole time.

So Abbott puts a second woman into cabinet - and an ex ATO person too! Shame Ley's been put in Health.
Johnston dumped as expected, Morrison moves from Border Protection to Social Services where he can mop up the asylum seekers who actually made it thought the system and are now on welfare (Morrisson in DSS sucks for me because he now has responsibility for a programme that I am involved in with at work and he's already managed to fark up another the programme which we have been working on), Andrews gets Defence (so no more gays in the military, again, I presume) and Dutton gets Border Protection (which must be a bad move for the govt). Frydenberg gets Arthur's old job.
A bit of musical chairs with the Parl Secs although O'Dwyer (Treasury) and Porter (PMC) have been promoted to their ranks.

I forgot to mention that there is a reinstatement of sort of the Science Ministry except that it's been given to Ian McFarlane who is the biggest climate change denier in the government.

Ahhhh Tony you are gift that just keeps on giving to the Labor party.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has revealed that his biggest achievement for women in 2014 was repealing the carbon tax.
In an interview with Channel Nine’s The Today Show, host Lisa Wilkinson asked Mr Abbott what he thought was his biggest achievement as the country’s Minister for Women.
"Well, you know, it is very important to do the right thing by families and households," Mr Abbott said. "As many of us know, women are particularly focused on the household budget and the repeal of the carbon tax means a $550 a year benefit for the average family."

with the reshuffle of the dodgy deck, the Vatican can sleep easy knowing that Andrews will not declare war on it.

You do realise that's the normal pollie tactic of ignoring the question asked and giving the answer they want people to remember
Carbon Tax repeal was important (given they took it to the election and cant get theriebudget through) and the $550 saving (apparently*) is one of his three word slogans

meanwhile the economy has gone backwards under their stewardship. Meanwhile they have only stopped just short of bringing back the ducking chair for the unemployed and those on low wages.

He really is a dead man walking. he won't be able to get past the lies. Labor should allow the passing of the medicare and some of the welfare changes, let whoever is PM at the next election wear the odium and go to the electorate promising to make the changes fairer (whatever fair means). The budget bottom line may look a bit better by then too.

must admit I laughed too when I heard the repeal of the Carbon Tax was cited by the MM as his great achievement as Minister for Women.
What sort of time period does the MM live in?

Taking more money out of the economy isn't going to help it.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
yep we are in for a bit of old fashioned Stanley Bruce belt tightening....Morrison already saying his job is to get people into work...One would have thought that there needs to be jobs for them to go into....Morrison knows this and is just continuing the softening up for demonising of the poor.
One Budget measure that could be looked at is to take the shears to the NDIS. The mad lunacy of getting all people under 65 out of nursing homes into the community needs to stop. These folk with either degenerative conditions or trauma induced disability require 24 hour care.
Plonking some into independent housing when they require the same care lacks economy of scale. Some have severe ABI and would not know whether they are in the Hilton Hotel, a nursing home or the third ring of Saturn.
The Libs and the Labs in Victoria have spent hundreds of million on building disability friendly tram and bus stops...I have yet to see one person in a wheelchair on a tram....they take taxis.
The disability lobby has achieved much of great benefit for people with disabilities and their families/carers. However they have sometimes gone over the top in their demands which govts state and Cth have acceded to.
