Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
various economists are predicting an increase to 6.5% next time...worse still is the apparent increase in numbers of those who are not in the labour force (those of working age who are not in employment or are formally unemployed..
The ALP ensured Australia was one of the few economies who sailed through the GFC without much damage.
Under the MM, Sloppy Jo and the cabal of brownie neo-cons Oz is heading for its very own home made Australian Financial Crisis

Created by the 6 years of drunken sailor spending of the idiot Pinkos.
You and your commie mates conveniently forget that Aus was one of the few countries in the world without foreign debt AND had a surplus when the dickhead Pinks came to power and proceeded fark Aus royally with a 24 carat gold strap-on. When they left and the LNP came to power, we were $830Bill in debt

Aye. Our commie buddies think 18 months is clearly way long enough for the Libs to clean up their bull-in-a-china-shop effort on the Aus economy.

The cleaners promised to clean it up.
But in reality they have made the mess worse.

Ah, here's the man who wants to only talk about the current govt, because the "past is the past". PMSL.
At least you admit the Pinkos left a mess.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
now now...let me tell a positive story about the MM!!!
Yesterday the MM gave the annual close the gap statement in federal parliament...a pretty dismal implicit account of the lack of fed effort (from libs and labs in my view).
An Aboriginal friend was invited by the PM to go to Canberra. This woman is a demon worker for her community and not really sympatico with the MM (or the labs for that matter)..
Anyway she rocks up and there is some sort of function at Parliament House attended by the PM and various Aboriginal folk. At some stage they were chatting and he was being charming....my friend then instinctively just patted him on the back...when he smiled at her she said "I expect you have not had many pats this week" (or words to that affect)...the MM apparently almost fell over laughing and for one moment at least in this hard week was happy.
so I guess he is human after all and not just the tin-man pin up boy for the neo cons

You're only about $650 billion out.

Yes, apologies. Quoted total net including private debt. Govt debt = $200Bill.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
the role of governments in capitalist economies is in essence to operate in a counter cyclical manner..pull back when the economy is booming and pump prime when it is going down the gurglar
during boom smart governments invest for the future (training/infrastructure etc)...costellos critique of ljh was he squandered the dosh on bribe to subscribe ..
personally I think nation states are pretty inept albeit faithful servants of capital

The best thing that ScoMo has ever said:
Social services minister Scott Morrison has busted out a cricket metaphor in an interview with an ABC just a few moments ago. He says the government needs to build a test match innings performance, and avoid the big bash populist swinging.

And now he's repeated it in QT:
What we see in the leader of the opposition is not a test match performer but a big bash slasher, Madam Speaker, who is happy to go for the big hit, for the big flash, the big effort – but he can’t put it in week in and week out unless he’s putting it in to someone else who he used to work for.

Whereas from TA we get this:
“Under members opposite, defence jobs in this country declined by 10 per cent,” Mr Abbott told parliament.
“There was a holocaust of jobs in defence industries under members opposite.”.
Happily he quickly apologised for using the term.

I am now using "Sco/Mo" in conversation...I think we all should - expect it will take off
liked his cricket metaphor, but it has been the MM who has copped the big bash from his colleagues...
the Bish and MT are both competing for the role as No Show)
Kevin Andrews is Ruggy Bollinger
of the commentators - Costello is slaw - not liked by anyone
Sloppy Jo is Cosgrove
