I think he scored a century in a Futures League match when he was only 16. Since then I have checked out his scores whenever he plays but he seems to be very inconsistent. Possibly he is a poor/nervous starter who looks good when he gets going. Hopefully, this innings will be a big confidence boost & he can score more consistently in Shield matches in the future. Prior to today's innings his four SS innings had netted him scores of 0, 25, 0 & 2.

Sounds like a whole stack of the young "stars" at the moment. Silk, Burns, Maddinson, Patterson etc.

All of them looked like future test players until they were seduced by T20 and winning a test cap didn't quite matter as much anymore.

Of the younger Aussie batting brigade, only Steve Smith seems to have finally made it as a consistent test batsman. (Warner as well I guess, but he's 28 these days) Apart from him there hasn't been a consistently successful Aussie test batsman under the age of 25 since Clarke back in 2004.

Chris Lynn makes his return to grade cricket this weekend so fingers crossed that he can find form quickly.

The Windies players should be banned from all T20 competitions until they can sort things out with their Board.

This is a very good time for Australian domestic players to be making big scores and putting their hands up for national selection.

The experienced Chris Hartley, David Hussey, and Adam Voges have done their causes no harm ... Khawaja is injured ... Callum Ferguson and Tom Cooper are in and well set.

Apart from Warner and Clarke (providing he is not injured as well) there are probably no certain Test selections in Australia's top 7. Against Saffie pace (rather than low slow Pakistani spin) I personally would keep Rogers, but the selectors may have a different view.

Surely Shaun Marsh has to bat higher than number six for WA if he wants to force his way back into the Aussie test team....

Number six has long been considered a bit of a 'soft spot' in the batting order. It's where test teams often ease in a young batsman. I can't think of too many batsmen who were pushing for a test spot batting at number six for their State/County team. He should be putting his hand up and demanding that he bats at three for WA.

I think he's well back in the pack now, anyway. Younger players with equivalent or superior FC records are in strong contention - Joe Burns, Chris Lynn, Jordan Silk. Peter Nevill might even be a 'smokey' to replace Haddin, given his batting success over the last couple of years (and he already has the baggy green in his paper bag).
