Re: Phillip Hughes dies, aged 25
Unsurprisingly, the Hughes' family barrister's quest for a head over Phil's death failed.
"The death of Phillip Hughes was a tragic accident arising from a "minuscule misjudgement" from the batsman and no players or umpires were at fault, according to the New South Wales coroner Michael Barnes.
Mr Barnes on Friday released his findings from the coronial inquest into the death of Hughes, who was struck on the neck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG in November 2014. Although the coroner determined that Hughes had been targeted by bouncers during his innings, he found that no laws of the game had been breached, and Hughes was well-equipped to deal with such bowling.
"Phillip was targeted by short-pitched balls bowled at or over leg stump or middle stump that placed him in greater danger of being struck," Mr Barnes said. "Of the 23 bouncers bowled on that day, 20 were bowled to him."
"However, in view of the evidence of the other players, the presiding umpires, and Mr Taufel [former umpire Simon Taufel], that Phillip was, because of his high level of skill and confidence, comfortably dealing with the short-pitched balls, I conclude that no failure to enforce the laws of the game contributed to his death.
...
The coroner also said that while it was hard to believe that no sledging had occurred during the match, the evidence suggested that Hughes' confidence and composure were unaffected by any such sledging."
-------------------------------------
Commonsense, if not unexpected, finding. Now let's move on, shall we. Deepest continued sympathies to the Hughes Family, but there's nothing more to see here.

Good decision from a very experienced coroner who has had to deal with a lot of cases even more awful than this one.

It's the only sensible, logical conclusion that could have been drawn. Time to close the chapter.

Re: Phillip Hughes dies, aged 25
If the Coroner's inquest hadnt been held or the family's counsel didnt go after the dubber players then some leftard farkwit would have been shouting cover up

Never Out ....apparently Slash to Point was taken
Horse owned by Australian cricketers and named in honour of the late Phillip Hughes wins maiden race
A horse bought by a group of Australian cricketers to honour late teammate Phillip Hughes has won her debut race. Never Out, trained by Kim Waugh whose husband Mark played 128 Tests for Australia and is now a national selector, won a 1000m maiden at Gosford on Wednesday. The three-year-old filly's ownership includes Mitch and Shaun Marsh, who played in Australia's recent defeat by South Africa in the first Test in Perth, as well as limited overs players Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch. Former Test players Greg Blewett and Ryan Harris also have a share along with Bupa Support Team Head Coach Darren Lehmann's wife Andrea and broadcaster Alan Jones.

The horse was named Never Out as a tribute to Hughes, who died after he was hit by a ball while 63 not out in a Sheffield Shield match in November 2014. "We bought the horse in memory of Phillip Hughes," Mark Waugh told Sky Thoroughbred Central. "We got together to all buy a horse because (Hughes) used to love horse racing so she might have had a bit of help today. "I just spoke to Darren Lehmann when she went across the line so it was a good win." Waugh said Never Out had shown promise as a juvenile but a setback had delayed the start of her career. "She had a bad accident in the paddock. She lost half her foot at one stage so that's why she's been in and out for so long," Waugh said. "She's out of a fast mare so I think she's got more to come."

Hope he is ok. He had indicated some health battles (which Taipan derided).
He was capable of delivering great one liners.
