'dividend imputation', that is; not 'qunt'.
Dividend imputation is a corporate tax system in which some or all of the tax paid by a company may be attributed, or imputed, to the shareholders by way of a tax credit to reduce the income tax payable on a distribution. In comparison to the classical system, it reduces or eliminates the tax disadvantages of distributing dividends to shareholders by only requiring them to pay the difference between the corporate rate and their marginal rate.

Negative gearing and super too. Not yet sold on the benefits of losing negative gearing, and not just because my portfolio is property heavy. Been reading and listening to a few fascist commentators and they seem to have a point if it's a one size fits all(:sighs: aren't they all) system.

negative gearing distorts the property marker. makes it a lot harder for first home buyers. i dont have a problem with that getting cut as it just supports profiteering
not sure about the other bits. depends what they want to do to super. they cant keep cutting back pensions and then overtax super

I think the main problem some commentators make is that the money would just go elsewhere just as tax avoidance friendly but less productive
Though speaking as someone whose super is negligible and wouldn't qualify for a pension (hopefully) they could at least means test some overly generous super benefits.

yes to means testing. should be done with all government benefits and tax breaks
tax avoidance is the big problem. trouble is itd probably be necessary to rewrite our entire tax system to clamp down properly on it. so they gotta work around the edges with bits and pieces with just makes it all the more ****** complicated. and generally the more complicated it is the more loopholes there are

Fine. Let's see the increase or broadening (a good idea) and see what Bill says. He control thes the Senate maybe. Money bills can't originate in the Senate.

With you on that one. Though apart from the Medicare levy the last budget was a good idea (mostly) that targeted the right areas in the wrong way.

So, it seems the MM has proposed to Mrs Laura Nauder..
The PM has set up a national taskforce on the Ice epidemic...what the feds can do is a mystery to me
but it all makes for good palaver
tough on crime...harrumph...
war on drugs....harrumph...
joke...
unforch it seems any pea brained bogan can cook up a batch of ice...
perhaps the national conversation shd consider decriminalization as an option...would cut crime...in Vic I would allow cheap access to opiates and other drugs, provided that all beneficiaries opted to live in the Mallee or the nth shore of Sydney

Poor Joe Hockey was dropped in it by the ATO Commissioner yesterday.
The ATO hinted that Hockey had approved the ATO's claim of public interest immunity in deciding not to disclose names of companies under investigation to the Senate Committee. As it turns out, Hockey had merely acknowledged to the ATO that he was aware they were going to claim the immunity.

Tony is not capable of an answe.
saw him on the abc before trying to maintain some semblance of control of the COAG agenda (tomorrow)...
while he wants to stick to family violence anti terror and Ice, the States are monstering him.
WA has gone berko about the GST carve -up...unfair barnett claims that other States are subsidised ignoring the reality that WA has been the long term beneficiary of support from the eastern states esp NSW and Vic.
WA is now saying they will not lend assistance if there are natural disasters in other States..
Meanwhile all States are jack of the failings of the Feds in health and education and will smite the MM tomorrow over these issues.
The MM looked dazed and at a loss.
He and Hockey have royally buggered the economy...there are a lot of newly unemployed people with baseball bats....the MMs turn will come.
As I have previously said this country is now only good at two things - digging stuff out of the ground and then filling holes with land fill.
We make little of consequence...our farmers have been subsidised for their lifestyle choices for generations...manufacturing is dead in the water.
Personally when confronted with the made in Oz product I reach for the overseas made alternative

what other things are notable about the economy...
it is certainly not knowledge based....this government does not like science and any kid with ability would be mad to stay here
and then there is the service industry - we make good coffee and have a few good eateries and pubs.

LATEST UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES
recently improved ... time for a little optimism maybe?
(participation rate also improved)
The jobless rate may take some time to get back down to late 2007 (pre-election) levels.
