That's re 'darkening the door' obviously, not necessarily polishing a seat.

horrie has worked so hard for so long on his seething, bitter, blinkered FB Pinko persona. I don't understand his reluctance to admit that he's involved in an intimate dance with a festering, miserable kindred spirit.

and re skully he does not understand my particular loathing for green - one dumb trick- types...these folk are class warfare denialists lacking the clear honesty of the brown-shirted and red necked types ....even the ALP knows when they buddy up to filthy capitalist swine and their world view that they are class traitors...
out in the re-education orchards and paddocks and abattoirs for all these folk to pick fruit and dig spuds for twopence and to slaughter beasts...along with all people making money out of selling any religious quackery

When I imagine what Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran must be feeling right now, having read about the process leading upto their executions, I feel sick. The nerves and anxiety must be unbearable.

For the benefit of both of them, there must come a time where their legal team tells them there is no more hope, and to be at peace.

You do wonder what the point of the last 10 years' 'rehabilitation' has been. Nothing, evidently.
I'm betting that the AFP will never again assist the Indonesian police with information while suspects remain within Indonesia. They're supposed to function as police, not as judge and executioners as well, so to avoid falling into those roles they will need to withdraw from that jurisdiction.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
I think the relationship between Australia and Indonesia, already strained in recent times, will sour even further. Widodo came into power with the promise of being more hardline than his predecessor.
The simple fact is that Australia is not liked by a lot of Indonesians- The majority of them want these executions to go ahead, and politicians seeking popularity will go along with this.
Australia has long been considered something of a regional bully, but as Indonesia's economy and wealth continues to grow, they are resisting and standing up to Australia more and more.
There is no chance these executions will be halted at the last minute. Widodo would be accused by Indonesians of giving into to the bullying neighbour Australia.

I agree that their fate is sealed.
It will affect the way the AFP and the Indonesian Police cooperate in future. There is no reason for the AFP to participate in a process that guarantees Australian citizens execution.

they should never have done it in the first place
afp knew the laws in indonesia. the drugs were being brought into aus. all they had to do was wait until the bad boys got here and nab them. involving the indonesian police guaranteed the deaths of at least some of the group

Yep. Aust needs Indonesia more than they need us. They have no reason at all to be seen to be acting soft against us.

i was told at the time by a senior customs guy that us not kicking up too much of a stink when they executed at least some of the B9 would be the trade-off for green-eyed witch getting off lightly.

and today smokin jo, everyone's favourite enumerate, releases his intergenerational report...this pack of shonk assumptions and devious modelling will provide the policy basis for work choices mk 2 and introduction of a welfare card - initially for Aboriginal people because they obviously have not been punished enough....
9 or so years ago I and some others did an analysis of smirkin pete's version of the ig report....similar nonsense...
around that time I found in Germany that over half the population of German retirees had improved their net worth over the previous 5 years. How? Yes they are no longer in jobs but they invest in shares and businesses.
The brown shirt numbnut neo-cons think people when in not in the workforce - unless they are members of the ruling classes are not productive. But retirees are productive both directly and indirectly in the economy.
Expect sensible economists to have field day unpicking Jo's latest disaster

Well the government can't exactly be seen to be doing nothing. I'm sure they know it's futile now. All of these last-ditch diplomatic efforts from Bishop are for show.
