You think he'll even bother with the DD bills? Not sure he has to and there's been some maths to suggest he can do it.

Funnily enough, it looks like he will get the DD through with FF, ON and NXT being ambivalent about it all.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
I am just back in Costa Rica from two weeks in Cuba and I had not known the Senate result.
Oddly enough I was asked by a Cuban were there similarities between Trump and Hanson.
I innocently said there were few - pointing to H's lack of influence and that her financial means are modest. Said she had more in common with Palin (minus the religious triumphalism of the latter). The one thing Hanson has in common with both is a complete disregard for facts (and a reliance on Wikipedia).
None of the big parties in Oz, USA, Pomgolia or other western powers have a convincing narrative for those unhappy folk who feel they have missed the gravy train. It seems more people are prone to the siren song of demagogues.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
So after assurances from the ABS that their website would "easily" be able to withstand census night, their website has.....crashed. And I myself haven't been able to get on to it since 8pm (It's now 10.45pm)
What a f*cking debacle.

Yesterday? Isn't one of the main purposes of the census to capture one night in the life of the nation? Where you are, who you're with, how many of you are in the house etc.....

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
missed....excluded by not being there it seems...sent a query re how I could fill in the form and that I needed the code...ABS said they would get back but have not.
I am a big Census fan and of ABS in general...but I think their chronic underfunding has caught them out. Personally I am in favour of identifiers being used and think much of the privacy camp argument is flawed.
If someone like me is happy to identify (to allow better tracking of what happens to people and so help evidence based policy), given my political views being opposed to the current mob of 19thC wannabes, then others should have little to fear.

Have just caught up on the RC into youth detention in the NT and the 4 Corners show that sparked it. No surprises in the show, other than they had vision.

Did not complete it - site inaccessible.
Would have been very frustrating if I had not been trained by years of increasingly useless IT at work.

I asked for a paper version which I filled out in 10 minutes last night - leaving out names and DOBs.
For my "what are your daily tasks at work" I put down "Making magic happen".

Forgot about it. At least now I don't have to do 12 rounds with the ABS over a fine.
