Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XII)
Not a Federal issue, perhaps, but Rob Pyne has quit the Queensland ALP and the parties are now 42:42 with 5 unaffiliated members holding the balance of power.
No challenge from Cyborg anticipated at this stage.

The MM apparently lobbied heavily for Credlin to get the job as Sex Discrimination Commissioner and her hubby the job as Ambassador to the Vatican
Sensibly, Truffles knocked this proposal on the head.

Have to say I'm very disappointed if Abbott is now just going out of his way to destabilise the Govt. But everything I've heard coming out of Canberra seems to indicate this.

This is good for the LNP in light of the likely long election campaign coming up. BJ couldn't possibly go for 7weeks on the national stage without some monumental stuff up. This way, he will have to spend more time in New England trying to get re-elected.
And even if Windsor wins, he will be more likely to support a Turnbull-lead; Barnaby-less coalition than the ALP.

Spot on. .
Think Truffles has had a bad week or two. The MM has had worse.

As an RD memorial, I hope Bronny wins pre-selection. I hope Skully is doing everything he can to achieve the result.

IMHO, the New England stance of Tony Windsor will be a massive failure. Rob Oakeshott became a pariah on the Mid North Coast for backing the Vulture, and Windsor was no less unpopular before deciding to retire rather than contest, and country folk won't forget Windsor's treachery. You can bet Barnaby's local campaign will feature plenty of images of Windsor shaking hands with the Vulture.

I initially read that as "humped Campbell Newman up the arse" (which is probably not far from the truth).

Looks like Downer Jr Jr didn't get the gig - Tim Wilson (formerly of the IPA and the Freedom Commissioner) is the candidate. He's a very smart and well spoken guy. But openly gay which will make the likes of Bernardi and Christiensen squirm a bit.
On the other hand, that's now two IPA alumni who have been given good seats in recent weeks - the other is the 28 year right wing wundernerd James Patterson who is now a Lib Senator for Victoria (and No 1 on their ticket FFS).

Game on!
Turnbull recalls Parliament to vote on the ABCC and brings the Budget forward a week.
Says that if the ABCC bill isn't passed, he will go to DD for a 2 July election.
Lots of conflicting strategies all over the place here.
Strap yourselves in.
