QdK used to open at FC level and keep. So did ABdV. Both opened in tests but AB didn't keep.

I think of Farokh Engineer when discussing wicketkeepers who opened the batting.

Johnny Waite opened in 14 of his 50 tests

Keepers who open well are like drummers who can sing. A myth........unless there name is Levon helm.

Most of them seem to be single figure innings openers i.e. "leave the pads on, bro, and go out and start the innings, eh".

I would still argue that out of a list out of 928 players a sub-group headed by Engineer, Ahmed, Mongia, Kunderan, Waite, Stewart, Silva, Dasgupta, Sherwell, Phillips and Ali with double figure opening appearances (i.e. 11 out of 928) still counts as a rarity. And in today's high no. of Tests per year, the workload of a wicketkeeper makes it almost impossible to consider that team member to opening the batting.
