Ah. Yes, it was Azha's first Test. He made 110.
Ind (437-7d) v Eng, Calcutta, 1984-85
NG Cowans 246 balls; RM Ellison 318; PH Edmonds 282; PI Pocock 312
Richard Ellison took 0-117 off 53 overs. Remarkable to think that just 6 months later he was tearing Aus a new arsehole in the 85 Ashes.

There were Ashes played in 1985?

Re: Trivia 2017
There can't possibly have been an Ashes series played in 1985 - the whole Australian team was in South Africa. They went back in 1986-7 as well, so we must have just missed out over that period. As far as I know, there was nothing at all Ashes-wise from 1982-83 right up until mid-1989.

That's pretty much my recollection, except my haziness goes back further, commencing in 1981, with a brief period of clarity in 1982-83.

Fair call. I have an almost non-existent faded and foggy memory of Graham "Helmets were invented because of my cowardice" Yallop being the losing-est captain ever for Aus.

Re: Trivia 2017
Here’s a quiz question – not topical, but perhaps of interest.
The classic historian and cricket writer CLR James was a great fan of George Headley (“the Black Bradman”, as others called him). See avatar left.
But which THREE outstanding qualities of a great batsman did he identify Headley as demonstrating to a superior level?
And which one of those three did he consider the “most important”?
If you prefer, you can treat this (under the Spoiler cowl) as a multiple choice question.
(I've had to amend his wording slightly, for obvious reasons.)
Don’t forget to select James’ top quality of the three.

- Multiple Choice?:
1. Quick in assessing the wicket
2. Quick in his bat movement
3. Quick into the hook or pull
4. Quick on his feet
5. Quick to call a run
6. Quick to get off the mark
7. Quick to judge what role was needed
8. Quick to learn new strokes
9. Quick to see the ball early
10. Quick to spot a bowler’s weaknesses
11. Quick with the sledging

Re: Trivia 2017
With deference to Peter's question, the recent 1st Test India v Aus at Pune chucked up numerous trivia tidbits.
Try this one.
India's 1st innings 105 in that Test contained an individual 50 (KL Rahul 64) and a 50 partnership (50 for 4th wkt). There have been only 2 lower completed innings totals containing an individual 50 and a 50 partnership. When?
Low completed Test innings total including individual 50 and a 50 partnership:
?
?
105 - Ind v Aus, Pune, 2016-17 - #2 KL Rahul 64/50 runs for 4th wkt

I don't know about three. But he went all trippy once explaining some "Caddyshack" like ability to "be the ball". So I'll say reading the delivery early as the most important. Placing shots purely to tire bowlers in the field was also something he was said to do.

Jeez skulls. Finally hit on the idea of checking the low scoring matches that might include a fifty. 205 innings between 90 and 104 alone.
