We lost the Ashes when they failed to solve any of the top order batting issues this summer. Heads need to roll among the selectors.

The probable loss of Stokes just makes a consolation win less likely.

What happened to Warner after he chinned Joe Root? He certainly wasn't dropped from the Ashes squad so maybe the ECB will use that as justification for Stokes to stay in the squad. The problem is there's very likely going to be a court case that could happen in the middle of the tour so that would be a massive distraction if he isn't binned.

Yeah, good point. Presumably touring cricketers need some sort of working visa for Aus? Can't be bothered to look it up but I guess he'll struggle to get one with a recent ABH conviction.

Stokes and Hales now officially suspended from England selection until further notice. (Not sure what they've got on Hales other than the fact he was there - was he identifiable in the video?)

If it's not resolved before the tour he surely won't be going, even if it is they will be under some pressure to take a tough line on the matter.

Turning in to quite an outstanding cricketer but f*ck him, don't want someone in my team like that. Kind of tarnishes any win knowing he's involved, always seemed a bit of a prick but this takes it to another level.

Not like we were going to win the Ashes even with him there so f*ck him off, give someone else the chance to be scarred with another 5-0 drubbing.

Well, you need a few "pricks" (or perhaps Cricketers of Unbelievable Natural Talent) in your team, but they have to be in the minority and kept under control. I don't mind him exchanging a few verbals with opponents, but getting involved in drunken punch-ups can't be tolerated and he needs teaching a lesson over this.

We pick too many for being "good team men", captains and coaches use it to justify picking sub-standard players who are easy to handle...

Woakes does seem to be the anti-Stokes though (one of the decent blokes, who I'm sure never smokes and probably only drinks Cokes...) I remember reading a comment a few years back (I think in the media as opposed to on here) saying that Woakes is "the one you would tell your parents you're at his house, when you're actually out on the town with Alex Hales" - how fitting that is given recent events
