Re: Trivia 2018
He really did struggle in Ashes Tests, and so is not well regarded by many Australian fans. I've always tended to fall in line with that prevailing Aussie view of him too, based on those disappointing Ashes performances. His overall figures - once he started opening - remain very impressive though, at a time when batting was much more difficult than it is today. He must have been a lot better generally than I've previously credited.

Re: Trivia 2018
I think it's partly also - like Gooch, like a number of others - he seemed overcome by nerves early in his Test career. He seemed to mature into greater confidence. And was definitely ballsy against the holy terrors of the Caribbean.
Of course, some go the other way, too!

That sounds like Gooch’s (alleged) answering machine message from the early 90’s.
‘Hello, it’s Graham, but I’m out ... probably lbw Alderman’.

Re: Trivia 2018
In a recent IPL match, Test triple centurians Chris Gayle and Karun Nair batted together.
Not including the Test that a player made his triple century in:
1. Who were the first triple centurians to bat together (after they'd scored triples) in Tests?
2. Which two triple centurians have batted the most times together in Tests?
3. Name the 5 pairs of triple centurians who have batted together in Tests.

Nice get on Jaya and Jaya. I missed this one as I thought Sanath had retired by the time Mahela made his 374 v SAf, but they played 5 Tests together after that and batted together twice.Bradman wrote:Jaya and Jaya.
The other Jaya and Sanga.
Sanga made his triple long after Sanath retired. So a miss there.
Aye.Bradman wrote:Hutton and Hammond.
Another nice get. Again I thought Sobers has retired by the time Rowe made his 302 v England in 1975, but in fact they played one Test together after that (Sobers last) and batted together once.Bradman wrote:Rowe and Sobers may have batted together.
So there are actually 7 pairs of triple centurians who have batted together after both had made triples.
Not including the Test that a player made his triple century in:
1. Who were the first triple centurians to bat together (after they'd scored triples) in Tests?
L Hutton and WR Hammond (Eng)
2. Which two triple centurians have batted the most times together in Tests?
10 times batted together - DPM Jayawardene & KC Sangakkara (SL)
3. Name the 7 pairs of triple centurians who have batted together in Tests.
6 - L Hutton and WR Hammond (Eng)
?
1 - LG Rowe & GStA Sobers (WI)
?
2 - ST Jayasuriya & DPM Jayawardene (SL)
10 - DPM Jayawardene & KC Sangakkara (SL)

Re: Trivia 2018
Graham Wood played 59 Tests for Aus and batted 112 times, for a Innings batted to Tests played ratio of 112/59 = 1.90
For players who have clocked up at least 50 Tests, there are 3 players with a higher ratio. Who?
And can you name the 5 players with the lowest ratio for those with 50 Tests?
Who holds the record for the most Tests where he has batted in both innings of every Test (ratio 2.00)?

I looked at triples whose careers overlapped and didn't think Cowper and Simpson did.
