Foxy bid for cricket rights

It might be a financial windfall to boost the coffers, but it could also alienate sections of the community if some games which are now on free-to-air are no longer there.

Hope the ABC will still broadcast.

Think the radio rights are separate, though some of the commercial networks have been muscling into this territory of late.

Wouldn't anti-siphoning rules still apply?

don't care about the ODIs. Can't see CA agreeing to this, unless they're just chasing the money.

The networks are colluding against CA so they might have to suck it up and take the money.

I think they are now all owned by News Limited who are cashing in on their movie business. So probably.
And Uncle Rupert would like to have something that Kerry owned for decades.

Last I heard MerdeTV's sports big cheese was one Bradley McNamara Esq, most famous for being the creative impetus behind Nine's coverage at its most excremental a couple of years back, and for getting a tad snowflakey whenever anybody expressed the view that his product was maybe not quite the greatest show on earth.
Be very, very afraid.

Heaven forfend. They're doing it for the good of the game just like the ECB over here did when lying down with the digger. Reducing the amount of people who can watch cricket on TV is fine - no danger to its immediate or long-term popularity and consequently no danger in reducing the amount of kids who might therefore take it up and one day become great players.
Here's a couple of viewing figures to chew on:
Ashes 2005 - which was the last test series on free to air TV in the UK on Channel 4 (a commercial channel) - the highest viewing figure, recorded during last day of 4th test - was 8.4 million people. Accounting for over 48% of the TV viewing public at that time apparently. Pretty heady stuff for cricket.
Since then it's all been on Murdoch's Sky.
2015 Ashes - example - 1st test which we won by 169 runs. Top viewing figure for the final, exciting day when we (the home team) won - 467,000.
Even allowing for less charismatic individuals on both sides and less exciting cricket that is a precipitous drop in viewers.
And the boards wonder why test cricket is becoming less popular. "Hmm that's a real head scratcher - if only there was some data that we could lay our hands on to help us figure that out. Oh well. Another G&T old boy? Don't mind if I do."

apparently Fox have pulled out of their bid. not sure where CA will pull the rumoured $150m per season from to cover the new pay deal.

I expect 7 to have a crack at Tests and 10 to keep the Babel at el cheapo prices. Of course CA could withdraw from the market for a year or give it to the ABC for one year. They'll get truckloadds onselling to the Bannies.

With the fallout from the Ball tampering, they may not have any option but to take the Money.

Fantastic. Seven will get Tests. We'll have to put up with Brayshaw, but he is still leagues ahead of the snore bores at,Nein. Whately will get a gig and maybe one or two others from the ABC.

Tubby's OK but otherwise 2nded h.
I wonder who'll simulcast under the anti-siphoning laws? 7, you say, h?

Seven will get the gig. We are lucky we have red anti siphoning law. I like Tubby but his commentary is fatuous.

Yeah, I guess with Nein having the Tennis then 7 might stump up some cash to take up the anti-siphoning rights.

While delighted about Nein's demise, I share Fred Nerks concern about the influence of HacNamara at Fox.

I don't think McNamara is head of sport at Fox. He is listed on t'Web as the full time head of sport at Triple M Southern Cross Austereo.
