Re: Trivia 2019
I have a very dim recollection of a more recent instance of a bowler completing two overs on the trot in a Test match ... the last over of one day and first over of the next ... without this being realised by the players or umpires at the time. Anyone know more, or is that my imagination running wild?

Re: Trivia 2019
Not in a Test match, but Boult bowled the last over of England's innings in the WC final (last July), then the "super over"?

Re: Trivia 2019
I'm mainly nicking these of Sky Sports' statistician...
Charles Macartney had a better average than Monty Noble in each innings, but Noble had a better average overall in the match.
Scorecard
Of course, I've cheated and got one which was pointed out by Benedict. Otherwise, I have no ****** idea if it has happened any other time. I'm assuming it could've in a match dominated by 2 bowlers.

Name | First Innings | First Avg | Second Innings | Second Avg | Overall | Overall Avg |

Monty Noble | 1/32 | 32 | 6/21 | 3.5 | 7/53 | 7.57 |

Re: Trivia 2019
I suppose the point of it is, to put it crudely, Noble in the Victoria second innings took a bigger chunk out of their batting than the Guvnr General did in either.
So, even though Macartney had a better wickets-per-runs haul both times - albeit on a smaller scale - Monty's deep excavations in the second dig gave him a proportionally (only slightly) better a return for the match. As far as the NSW bowling went, his prodigal "3.5" average made the biggest, decisive inroads of the match.
Charlie might have consoled himself that he had considerably the better economy rate, more maidens, etc.
In other words, he held the Vics in a full nelson, for the Montster to duff them up & dispatch them!

After the series where Warne got the wickets world record in Sri Lanka, Warne had a better average than Muralitharan both in Sri Lanka and out of Sri Lanka but Murali had the better overall average by some margin.

Mainly because Murali had a massive number of wickets v the Manics, at a very low average.
