Lockdown in Leicester extended by two weeks due to a spike in new cases which currently account for 10 % of the total in England. It's only taken the government 11 days to address this issue so let's give them a hearty round of applause. Rolling Eyes

Yeah Bas, your Govt seems to contemplate their navel for considerable time before coming to an obvious decision.

Here in Aus we couldn't believe it took so long for Boris to insist that international travellers quarantine for 14 days on arrival in the UK. We introduced that in March.

With the benefit of hindsight, lockdown was imposed at least a week too late. That and the decision to let the Cheltenham festival go ahead (250,000 people across 4 days) did us no favours at all.

Pity you didn't lock down the mornington peninsula properly when a few morons flew back from aspen.

Though permanently quarantining that part of Melbourne would keep the dickheads in their zoo and out of their offices where they usually fark up the country from.

Tasmania closed its borders in March. Crossed fingers, but no cases here in 41 days. Still in lockdown.

Two weeks and Woz only has the hard border as its only restriction

Optus will have 60000 seats available for the Derby (wiping out Eagles and Dockers fans isnt a bad thing)

Our only cases are airport arrivals (despite claiming to have a hard border we have flights in every day from every state and Emirates has a flight in too) and the Live Sheep ship

The Xenophobes here are loving the hard border and McClown is riding the wave

From McClown's facebook page

I want to take a moment to clear up a few things about WA’s upcoming AFL hub.

The WA footy hub will look and feel very different to what is currently occurring over east.

In fact, other States like Queensland and South Australia have recently announced that they will be following our lead.

From the outset, we said we would never compromise our hard border arrangement.

This position has not changed.

We would only facilitate a footy hub on our terms, and based on the best health advice.

As a result the AFL initially walked away from the WA model because it was too difficult, however they have now changed their tune and are now accepting of our conditions.

This is how it would work in WA:

- Our two WA teams will return from Queensland soon and be required to self-quarantine for 14 days, under strict rules, that will allow them to train and only play against each other during this 14-day period.
- Any Victorian team that comes to WA will be sent directly to a quarantine hub.
- Victorian teams will be forced to spend 14 days in the quarantine hub, under strict protocols where they will have no contact with the general public.
- During those 14 days in the quarantine hub, Victorian teams will only be allowed to play other Victorian teams – no exemptions will be allowed.
- There will be strict protocols and regular testing systems in place for the teams, based on expert health advice.

It’s also important to note that the AFL will continue to conduct regular testing of players to minimise any risk of potential infection.

These arrangements are approved by WA’s Chief Health Officer and Police Commissioner. They have not changed.

These measures will be strictly monitored and enforced by WA Police.

No changes have been made to WA’s hard border controls.

Simply, I won’t risk the health and safety of Western Australians.

We are in an fortunate position here in WA, with no evidence of community spread and our hard border still in place, we can continue on our roadmap.

This means we can carefully and responsibly get back to normal, open up our economy inside WA and get Western Australians back to work.

Under Phase 5, expected to start on the 18th of July, large crowds will be able to return to Optus Stadium.

With major events getting underway, including AFL games, this means hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs opening up for Western Australians.

Whether it be stadium officials, ticketing jobs, security and hospitality at the events, or the hundreds of local businesses that benefit from the crowds before and after those events – it’s good news for our State and makes sure we continue to recover from the pandemic.

But I remind everyone, we can’t get complacent and we should always follow the health advice.

Stay home if you are unwell, keep up good personal hygiene and avoid unnecessary physical contact.

We all have a personal responsibility to do the right thing, as we get back to normal.

McGowan (presumably talking thru his COAG task force hat) currently doing commentary on the Sidebottom saga for SEN. From a four-hour plane flight away and a couple more than one degree of separation from the evidence. Flagging 2 weeks for Dunn and not stopping at 4 for the other bloke. Safe to say he's lapping up the visibility and influence, and it's always been hard to lose votes making life harder for the AFL.

OK you got me. I did wonder why Dwayne called him Mark all the way through and not Mister McGowan or whatever.

If the guy was giving the message direct from the AFL then Steele is even more gawn.

I'm in hospital ATM. Thought my liver wse finally giving up the ghost. But no now its the heart. Nothing to worry about as three doctors and three different machines are saying aok. Just one machine saying otherwise. But the point of this post is I haven't been tested for CV. Now I've got a border permit which required an initial test,.but I just assumed anyone ejo was admitted would be tested. Anyway I'm stuck in an iso room without a TV and only this device for company. Cheap farker one of my multitude.of nieces, actually great nieces, to replace the expensive one I left in a pub beer garden. Anyway I think the health authorities seem yo take this less seriously up here. Ambos weren't wearing masks, none of the docs and nurses in masks. So the only concession to CV is to throw me in an iso room without a TV or a decent book. Smyway stay safe folks.
