Good start from the Wozzies. Even Mrs R scraped in a 40. Tozzies recovering from a poor start.

Siddle & Webster making the score a bit more respectable for Tas

Lol. I reckon he is addicted to playing. Will be a good influence for the Tozzies.

A batfest meanwhile in Adelaide; only one player dismissed under 30.
Two Michelles taken on the opening day of the season, Neser and Pope. Neser will be pressing for a Test spot this year if there is any slip up or injury amongst the incumbent top 3.

Great effort from Pope to take all first day wickets. The Jellies quicks are entirely useless.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2020-21
The Adelaide Oval has always been an autobahn since they appointed a dickhead to curate it.
Still Dizzy Gillespie (the forgotten bloke of Oz cricket) and to a lesser extent Harris were great bowlers at International level.
Seems to me I have been watching generations of medium fast Jellies like Winter and Sayers trundle about in the most unconvincing manner.
Any theories on why this is the Case?

Worrall of the current Jellyback mob is OK. I'm struggling to think of another fast bowler who was raised in SA AND developed there.
Harris was an all-rounder; didn't really develop his pace bowling until he moved to Queensland.
Gillespie developed partly in NSW before moving to SA, didn't he? He was born in Sydney, anyway.
Collin Miller was a fast bowler in SA before moving on to Tasmania and Victoria and developing his spin bowling to become his predominant skill ... even so, he had played a couple of matches for Victoria before he played for South Australia.

thinking back further - Hammond, Freeman, Attenborough, Harrity, Cleary, and the Georges (Shane and Peter) might qualify as locally developed fast bowlers of above average quality. Hogg developed in Victoria, not SA.

Sayers was good for quite a while but alas no longer, likewise not-Mennie-for-too-Mennie.
Harrity had a scary mullet and a big mouth but sod-all else - he motivated even the unflappable Martin Love into thumping him out of the attack. Planet Pak would doubtless have drooled over him.

Attenborough was the Sayers of his day and Fritz in his second sport can be filed under 'what might have been' if he hadn't had to spend six months each year concentrating on his first.

Paul Rofe would have been similar to Sayers pace-wise.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2020-21
It was good to see Marnus finally score another century for Queensland. His previous one was in the 2017/18 season. He might have an outstanding batting average in Test matches for Australia but prior to this season in Sheffield Shield matches, his record stood at 2752 runs @ 33.16. That's typical.

Excellent get by Embee on Wayne Prior. On his day he could be frightening.
Given his fondness for bowling full bungers, the dead AO pitch rarely affected Tait.

The late Neil Hawke is the best SA quick I can remember. Like Freeman he was also a very good footballer.

Meanwhile only 6 wickets had fallen at the halfway point of the Jellies v the Worriers game. Congrats I guess to Cam Gannon for being the only quick to snare a wicket.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2020-21
Geez, except for Neser's 5-fer (and Pope's very expensive michelle) it's been a batsman's paradise of a start to the Shield season.
With Agar's ton, does this start another push by a crappy WA bowler to nab the selectors' desperately sought after allrounder spot in the Aus XI?
