Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
I'm still a bit shell shocked from how f*cking awesome this film is. Seeing my Dad this weekend and have convinced him to go as he likes a good action flick but I'm more excited myself about seeing it again.

Thanks for the tip, vilks. I was a fan of the first 2 (not so much Thunderdome) so will give the latest incarnation a burl.

Definitely far more heavily influenced by the first two, particularly 2. Thunderdome was shit when it became a Peter Pan rip off half way through and thankfully there aren't too many signs of influence from it in the new one.
Look forward to your thoughts on it!

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
I've seen quite a few recently.
'Gone Girl' made me seriously sweaty and agitated.
'Wild' was great, reflective.
'Unbroken' was a great (true) story but was over-Hollywoodised in parts. The survival story was fantastic.
I enjoyed 'American Sniper' more than I expected, for the characterisation of the lead character, especially in the scenes at home, and his struggle to return to normal life.
'Inherent Vice' showed Joaquin Phoenix at his most interesting, decadent, and watchable; although he was even better in the Johnny Cash movie.

Saw Edge of Tomorrow which is sort of like a cross between Groundhog Day (without the charm) and Independence Day (without the silliness).
Avoid.

Saw Wild Tales, an Argentinian film. Lots of black comedy and fun.

Well, you're not supposed to take it seriously. I thought EoT was a great piece of Sci-Fi escapism.

Look, if Goundhog Day never existed I would have liked it more.

Fair enough. I admit to being a Sci-Fi tragic. I even thought Independence Day was good.

I thought Edge Of Tomorrow was fantastic. Plot flaws, fortunate ending, but fantastic all the same.

I likened 'Edge of Tomorrow' to the excellent 'Source Code', rather than 'Groundhog Day'.
For a twisted, crisply shot, extremely dark humorous movie, check out 'Nightcrawler'.
For something a bit different, check out 'Locke' with Tom Hardy. 99% of it is filmed inside a car, but don't let that deter you- It's brilliant.

I'll be honest - she kept me watching to the end.
I'm surprised that so many here liked it.

Yes, yes - we'd all like to tongue punch Emily Blunt's fartbox... but that is NOT why I liked the film FFS.

Aptly (and explicitly) put, Monk!
Would this be what you imply?

If you like 80s action movies and don't mind ridiculousness then watching the above will be a good half hour.

Chappie = crappie. Terrible film even for a tragic Sci-Fi buff.
