Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
'Australia' - a pretty pastiche
'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' - a good chance to ogle Spanish architecture and two (or three, if you fancy Penelope Cruz) very attractive young women to a flamenco soundtrack. Ends rather abruptly; I think the Spanish tourist Board must have run out of money.

I'm an hour into Wolf Creek and it's getting a bit scary . . .

Good half a film. Then it gets shit and hammy.
Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Yes, I've reached the shit and hammy bit.
I watched a programme about the real backpacker murderer, Ivan Milat, the other day and that really was scary!

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Watched a few movies over the break.
I am Legend - disappointing
Baby Mama - reasonable comedy
Hancock - OK
Mama Mia (for the Chief, youngest sprog and Mum) - light entertainment but, fark me, what were they thinking in casting Pierce Brosnan in a musical? And Meryl Streep has a fair set of pipes.
Taken - farkin awesome. I had to empty the TV out after Liam Neeson killed about 1000 baddies.

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Hancock is one of most oddly written movies I've seen in a long time. It's like two, random, separate scripts stuck together. The first half of the movie is all played for laughs, then from out of nowhere it tries to become this intense, emotional drama in which the characters we'd come to know suddenly changed personalities entirely.
Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
Terrible casting with Brosnan and Julie Walters too, I thought.skully wrote:

Do you realise Meryl Streep will be 60 this year?!

Aye, hence the only an OK rating from me. I was a bit p!ssed off given most Will Smith movies a guaranteed to be pretty good.Dello wrote:Hancock is one of most oddly written movies I've seen in a long time. Got stuck watching Mama Mia on Christmas Day as someone received it as a gift.
Wasn't brilliant...

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
As Dem alludes, it's a chick flick of the highest order. The cringe-worthy part for me was my wife, mother and daughter all singing along, everytime the cast burst into song for no apparent reason.Dello wrote:Got stuck watching Mama Mia on Christmas Day as someone received it as a gift.

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that I'm losing her forever
And without really entering her world
I'm glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl
Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awake, I let precious time go by
Then when she's gone there's that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guilt I can't deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
(Slipping through my fingers all the time)
Well, some of that we did but most we didn't
And why I just don't know
Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
Slipping through my fingers
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Schoolbag in hand she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile

The cringe-worthy part for me is that they would know the words.

Meh, as a teenager of the 70s, we were combarded with ABBA. Sort of got burned into our brains.
I confess to knowing the words to many of the songs in the show.

Re: Anyone seen any good movies recently?
My old man used to hate musicals. Mum took him along to see Grease when it was big in the late 70s, and he nearly spewed when the first random cast song sprang forth.
While watching this one, I couldn't help but think how disgusted the old man would be at me watching the pap.

Well, my Mum and wife suffered the 70's brain-sear, while my daughter went to the movies with her friends several times to see the rubbish.taipan wrote:skully wrote:Meh, as a teenager of the 70s, we were combarded with ABBA. Sort of got burned into our brains.

The scary thing is that the whole theatre sang along (says my daughter). Fark, that would make me get up and leave.
