Oh sorry, do you mean references to shit in the 70's? Well balls to that, you juggler. Bet there's loads of shit you've watched that have references to shit that happened before you were born.
I thought the whole point of Life on Mars was to sit back and wallow in nostalgia. If I'm not going to get that part of it, what's the point?

Asif. I'm hardly a 70's bloke. It's just f*cking quality viewing.

You have the temerity to lecture people on music regarding Marky Mark Morrison and his Bunky Funch, yet have never heard of Showadawaddy?
That's like Stevie Wonder telling me my clothes look shit.

Re: Ashes to Ashes
I've heard the name Showadawaddy. That dude on Mock the Week is always on about them. Just didn't think they were "relevant".
I didn't lecture you on Mark Morrisson. Mainly because I've only heard one of his songs.
But that one song is undoubtedly a classic.

Yeah, she is a horndog. Didn't she pie it in that Victorian drama? Oh yeahhhh...
Back to the prog. It was alright, think it tried to be a bit more comedic where as in life on mars it didn't even have to try. I think it'll develop and become better. Think getting it set off initially was going to be harder this time around. Could be good. Hunt is always good to watch.
Re: Ashes to Ashes
Enjoyed it, but I wonder if there's enough in it to sustain more than one series.

Re: Ashes to Ashes
I loved it. The first of the series, like with L.O.M., is by necessity a scene-setter and can be a bit patchy, which was again the case. And, much as I like Keeley in stockings, they dragged that out a bit.
Highlights for me were their digital watches all going off at 1200; "Phone card? The flash git"; shiny suits and espadrilles; and hearing Roxy's Same Old Scene again.
That's on first viewing. I thought the previous series got better with repeated viewings 'cos you notice details, and I expect Ashes will be the same.

Yeah, she did look amazing though, phwoarsville. That stocking this was all 'Woooooooooooo' as well. Yeah, I enjoyed it. Gene Hunt does make it. I'd have watched all the series in one pop if they'd put them all on.

And how good did that Quattro look after 27 years?
Design classic.

Yeah man, it looked quality. Liked how they were tanking it as well.
Re: Ashes to Ashes
They said the date was July 1981 didn't they?
If they don't put a Headingley snippet in there I shall be most pissed off.

Just watched it. Never watched LoM but picked the premise up quickly. Quite liked it actually. Keeley is fun and very do-able!
I wonder if the Brixton riot will feature.

Clever how they got rid of all the modern buildings from the sequence on the river, too.

I thought it was shown on a television at one point in A to A - which Gene then turned off?

Re: Ashes to Ashes
Anyone read AA Gill's scathing review of Ashes to Ashes in the Times?
Is that fair, all you fans?
I was never a great fan of Life on Mars. It was always too knowingly boorish and camp, with too much unnecessary HG Wellsish format and too little story. The scripts had their tongues so deeply in their cheeks, they barely made sense. However, John Simm and Philip Glenister both gave broadly watchable performances, and I know it’s one of those rare TV shows that boys thought was actually made for them. The sequel, Ashes to Ashes (Thursday, BBC1), has moved up to the 1980s – to the squealing joy, I expect, of the prop-finders – and the departed Simm has been replaced by a woman. Why? Why take one of the few robustly male bits of evening TV and gratuitously cast a girl to femme it up?
DI Alex Drake comes on as a cross between a Charlie’s Angel and Superintendent Jane Tennison. Keeley Hawes couldn’t arrest an audience if she came on naked with a “This Way Up” sticker on her bottom. She’s like a character that has escaped from a Depeche Mode video. Physically, she moved with all the sinuous martial confidence of room service, and she does emotion by breathing hard. The angrier she got, the more she huffed and puffed. But, most unfortunately, when she was on screen with Gene Hunt, she simply disappeared completely. You kept looking, but you couldn’t see her. I expect there’s going to be some sort of romance cooked up between them. Sadly, it looks like it will be onanism for poor Gene.
Is that fair, all you fans?
