Re: Ashes to Ashes
Most reviews i've seen have been positive to be fair LLL, and after all its only 1 persons view.
Life on Mars seems to have quite a cult following, I really only ever saw the series on DVD rather than as it was broadcast.
Reckon a lot of fans of the original will fit into the 'oh it'll never be as good as....' category.
I liked it because its my era and I remember the events of 1981 quite vividly.
Think the opening sentence there is the giveaway - 'I was never a great fan of Life on Mars'

Re: Ashes to Ashes
Keeley Hawes couldn’t arrest an audience if she came on naked with a “This Way Up” sticker on her bottom.
After all the slobbering you've done on this thread, I'm pretty sure that the above would arrest you Lever!
So he's definitely wrong on that count.

That preview makes it look very entertaining but completely ridiculous.

It's an OTT comedy with some chilling moments thrown in for good measure, surely you saw Life on Mars?

"She’s like a character that has escaped from a Depeche Mode video."
Is it possible to escape from a Depeche Mode video?

Gill never seems to like much - he's there to criticize though, so it's fair enough I 'spose.
It didn't all work in the first episode, the Rainbow scene for example, but Gene Hunt is such a great character it was always watchable.

Not if it's 'I feel you', but that's purely because of the skag. I heard a couple of people escaped from 'Enjoy The Silence' but it's not been confirmed.

Saw the last episode. Didn't really know what was going on. Was it all in his head in the end? If it was all imaginary and he'd made it all up then how can this woman be inside the reality that he created with all the same characters and whatnot?

Re: Ashes to Ashes
- Spoiler:
- He was in a coma in hospital and came out of it only to get sick of real life and commited suicide to go back to 1973. She is a police psycologist who wrote the report on Tylers suicide. Hence she has it in her head who these characters are because she studied Tylers death.

I thought that worked because I always though Zippy was bloody scary anyway as a kid! I didn't like the over the top boat scene down the Thames - about the only shit part in it.
Love the music though - forgot how good some early 80's stuff was before Stock,Aitken & Waterman got their grubby hands on the music scene.
Got to love a bit of Roxy Music - couldn't stand him at the time.

Re: Ashes to Ashes
Who'd be a critic eh, JK? I liked the boat scene precisely because it was so over the top!
The Roxy tune they used was Same Old Scene from Flesh and Blood - I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Oh Yeah was another tune from that album I used to like. I had that and Avalon ('82) on vinyl, and played them to death back in the day. If memory serves, The Smiths were just emerging then and I was also into the eponymous Bowie album.
Great times!

Absolutely, which is why I always pay lip service to any Tv critic. It's whatever floats your boat isn't it?

Re: Ashes to Ashes
Another cracker tonight.
We were trying in work today to predict what tunes they'd use and I got Tenpole Tudor, Imagination, Dexy's, Visage and OMD. Didn't get Madness or Heaven 17, though..
I'm gonna get so much kudos for the Tenpole call, I reckon..

I thought I saw someone who could have been him as they walked through, the long hair, hair band and beautiful eye make-up were all there.
