Re: AFL 2008 thread
They'll pop up every now and again (especially at Subi) and beat someone aiming for eighth...but I dont expect them to make the eight (and they should finish below Freo).

Waste of time looking at either, in my case. I checked for bootspace, carseat attachments, and finance.

Seat attachments for the kids and boot space for the in-laws?

Apologies if this has been discussed, but this tall Wozzie lad with Fijian heritage looks to be a likely prospect. Could it be the reason both the Weagles and the Dorkers are playing so schizenhausen at the moment (no. 1 draft pick).

I did try and use Natanui (and Rich) as an excuse for the Dockers a couple of weeks ago...

Good thing you refrained.
Before you can convince anybody else that your mob are finishing last as part of some Baldrickinan Cunning Plan, and not because they're the worst team in Australia at the mo, you first have to convince yourself the argument isn't too ridiculous to put onto a permanent record like this forum. And by doing that you soften the ground when your crowd's head honchos try to hide behind the same 'reasoning' when their positions come under question. 'We're not really crap, we're just trying to put one over the rest of the AFL, it's all under control, fair dinkum....'
1980 (pre-draft) and 1991 (pre-priority picks) are the only seasons I can think of in remotely recent memory when that well-known soup stirring implement was 'won' by a team plainly other than the worst in the league. Every year this millennium, and most since 1897, the spoon has found its rightful resting-place.

Choco reckoned that Port were the best 0 and 4 side ever in the AFL ...I'd say Freo are the best 1 and 9 (and 10) team ever .

Choco was talking through his arse as well. And not for the first time. North Melb 1975?
Geel, Rich to beat the MOTN, Syd, Port but this game is booby-trapped, WB, Bris, Haw by a gazillion, Coll in front of 60 000 rabid Pie fans and three 4WDs full of Demons fans who couldn't find their snow-chains.

That was as heart-breaking a loss as any that I can remember in a normal home and away round.

Even though we won't make the Finals, the positive for me out of last night is that we can still be competitive (even if only at home)
Come the end of the season when teams are trying to make the eight, I can assure you that no-one will want to play WCE.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
West Coast and Sydney certainly know how to put on a show. Both have built a reputation for dour efficiency rather than flair. Their matches against each other make a lie of this reputation.
Applause to both teams from a neutral.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
There have been more excellent games this year than any year i can remember. Last night's would be a good advert for the code if trying to sell it to a new audience. The big lead, the comeback, an arm wrestle in the last quarter with all seem lost when WC restored their 3 goal lead with only a few minutes to go. Then the ecstacy and the heartbreak of a last minute winner.
Lots of skills from both sides too with few unforced turnovers (though WC stuffed up a couple of crucial times at the death).

20-21 head to head in Sydney's favour.

Certainly its top of the list at the moment. Essendon west Coast was pretty big for a while a few years back following the coat waving thing.
Over the history of the game i suppose Essendon/Carlton has been the main rivalry but it's gone off the boil recently for obvious reasons.

Aye Ponts - some serious history being laid down between the two sides. I thought the Spivs were totally gone at 6 goals down at the main break.Paul Keating wrote:20-21 head to head in Sydney's favour.

It's a funny rivalry in that neither city otherwise takes much notice of each other - Perth being AFL mad and a little loony generally; Sydney being a Rugby/League city that revels in its own superiority.
It is a rivalry arising solely from what goes on on the field.

Ya SGDT JGK ...It's a rivalry arising from the Spivs thinking they are the best city and the Wozzies knowing it
