Good stuff, Embee - thanks for all that lot.
Plenty to digest there, and although a rather biased account I'm sure ( ), a useful introduction to the main protagonists.
Thread bookmarked and I shall refer back to this as and when I find myself trying to figure out who and what the hell is going on in AFL over the next couple of weeks.

Damien Fleming is a Hawthorn fan
Merv is a Bulldogs fan ( I think)

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Worth another run, although (hopefully for their fans) now a few years out of date:
Good old Collingwood, forever
All over the Herald Sun
That is where they are whenever
McGuire or Malthouse scratch their bum
All the hyperventilating
When they win two on the trot
And the endless hype and bulldust
Won't help them find the plot
Or:
We are from tigerland
An 80s throwback we're from Tigerland
Before each season we will spout the same old rot
'Bout how we're so shit hot
They bounce the ball, we do sod all, another coach gets shot
Oh we're from Tigerland
We're still fighting all the battles we lost twenty years ago
Still demanding respect
Though we ain't earned it yet
We're from Tiger (Bring Hafey back!)
We'
re from Ti...ger...land!

Some great work there, embee, though you lied about the teeth in the case of Collingwood supporters. They share their dentures on game days.

Horrie lived in South Melbourne (birthplace of the Swans) when Caesar was a boy. You will notice he never calls them the Sydney Swans, but always refers to them as the Bloods, an alternative team nickname which goes back to their powerhouse Victorian days (of the 1920's).

Aha, gotcha. Imagine his face when he found out they were moving to Sydney

I keep having this recurring nightmare. Geelong loses to North in the first week of the finals, and is then knocked out by Collingwood.

I'm no longer sure that Footscray can match it with either Hawthorn or Geelong this year; they struggled for nearly a half to play decent football and shrug off Essendon last night.

Interesting last two weeks. Any one of five teams can finish 4th, three of these could miss the 8 altogether.
Even Richmond can still make the 8.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Mathematically, Carlton can still make it, though Collingwood and St Kilda would both have to lose both their remaining games, and Carlton have to beat Brisbane and Hawthorn soundly in their run home.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Collingwood's percentage is too high for Carlton to catch but they could possibly catch St Kilda. Richmond and Brisbane would both have to fall over too.
I'll be at the Hawthorn/Carlton game in rnd 22, one scenario has Franklin and Fev both reaching 100 at that match. I remember two pitch invasions some years ago when Lockett got his 1000th goal and 100th for the season in the same match at the SCG.

Lions were terrible in the last quarter. We continue our hex over the Swans who look to be in serious decline. Roos has left them a poor legacy. Doubt any of their youngsters would be sort after by other clubs. Lucky for him they snared 2005 courtesy of the guy Roos loves to isolate.

"laurie nash played for the Bloods, as did other state players inc peter bedford."
Russell Cook played maybe a hundred games for South Melbourne, and a handful as a fast bowler for Victoria in the late 60s-early 70s.
Jamie Siddons played half a dozen games for Sydney in their very early days up there, including that 1000-1 win over a flag-bound Essendon in the second last round of 84. South also had Mick Malone on a 'form 4' for years and he would have come over around 1976 if his cricket career hadn't suddenly taken off.
Something's telling me there's still another one we've boith forgotten....
