Re: AFL 2008 thread
I think Andrew Mackie might make the final side. Not sure Medhurst will.

Forwards: Jonathan Brown (Brisbane) Daniel Bradshaw (Brisbane) Brendan Fevola (Carlton) Lance Franklin (Hawthorn) Brent Harvey (North Melbourne) Steve Johnson (Geelong) Paul Medhurst (Collingwood) Daniel Motlop (Port Adelaide) Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs) Ryan O'Keefe (Sydney) Matthew Pavlich (Fremantle) Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda)
Midfielders/ruckman: Gary Ablett (Geelong) Jimmy Bartel (Geelong) Simon Black (Brisbane) Adam Cooney (Western Bulldogs) Joel Corey (Geelong) Dean Cox (West Coast) Daniel Cross (Western Bulldogs) Brett Deledio (Richmond) Lenny Hayes (St Kilda) Chris Judd (Carlton) Brett Kirk (Sydney) Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn) Drew Petrie (North Melbourne) Matthew Richardson (Richmond) Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle) Joel Selwood (Geelong).
My early attempt at the team:
Harley (c), Scarlett, Milburn
Enright, Bock, Hodge
Corey, Bartel, Richardson
Cox, Ablett, Cooney
Harvey, Riewoldt, Johnson
Medhurst, Franklin, Fevola
Sandilands, Selwood, Judd, Pavlich
Backline is Cat heavy as I'll freely admit I don't know much about a few of the other players named. Not sure if Judd warrants selection but the selectors and the media love him so he'll make it on reputation, possibly even starting on the ground ahead of Cooney or Corey.
good bloke is skullywag
...but when it comes to AFL he should be a little more careful.
eg Gary Ablett - wonderful player that he is has been selected by skully at centre half forward...while i'm certain gazza jnr would be competitive I'm not sure that is his best position.
lol also at having Cox on the half forward flank and then having Medhurst in the ruck...i'm not sure fevola would make a good rover tho he did make a passable imitation of Mudge in his his pink nightie and and appliance on monday night

Has horrie realised yet that Cox, Ablett, Cooney is the ruck line and Medhurst is in the forward pocket?

I thought you were trying some Sheedy-style innovative team placements - clogging up the other mob's half forward line with your following division might work better though....

Palmer has "future Brownlow" written all over him. He will probably feature high in Freo's best and fairest this year. A very deserved winner.
This is not to knock Rioli who has some very impressive skills and makes every possession tell. He probably lost out because he regularly has inactive spells whereas Palmer was more consistent.
In other words Rioli occasionally played like a first year player, Palmer never did.
When you add the likes of Cotchin, Dalziell, Kreuzer and the Melbourne defender whose name i forget, the class of 2008 is going to have an impact over the next decade.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Hawthorn (35) v Dogs - a better side in better form
Collingwood (20) v Addledville - the MOTN only had half a forward line before, now there's no Porpoise and precious little purpose
Sidneyland (10) v North - in their last hurrah. Whether it's winning a final or slagging Carlton, Roos knows a last chance when he sees one.
St Kilda (10) - thought that'd wake you up! Seriously, Geelong by 50 and nobody else will get any closer.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Interesting - I've tipped the Dogs (I think they might win, they're one of the few teams that have troubled Hawthorn), Adelaide (because I hope they beat Collingwood), North (ditto), and Geelong (because I have to, although I think St Kilda's forward line is one of the few that can really test Geelong's backline, and certainly St Kilda's midfield is playing way better than they were when the teams last met).

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Footscray (a hunch - 30 touches and 3 goals to Akker)
Adelaide (though i hope the wobblies win, being a late arriver in Oz i don't have the genetic hatred of Collingwood that most of the population have inherited).
North (They are the new Sydney - little talent, lots of teamwork)
Geelong (St Kilda had it way too easy last week to be up for this one).
Prediction - Wallace will not coach Richmond next year.
