Where was Ballack creating or scoring the goals when they desperately needed them at Euro '04 and WC '06 (in the semi against Italy, they could done with a big game there from the supposed world's best big game player) . To add more insult to what is a commercial game now, I think he became the most expensive player in the world after those experts at FIFA thought that he had a good world cup and made a place in the team of the tournament. Pathetic, he did well against minnows (yes minnows comparable Zimb and Bang) and that was it.

Apart from his great free kick against Austria, where has Ballack been this tournament? If he had rose to the challenge against Croatia, his team would never have been in the predicament it was last night in having to at least draw against their neighbours. And now Germany has to play Portugal in the next round instead of Turkey. if he had produced the goods when they were needed, Germany would have topped the group and basically play a shite team in the quarters.

so ballack had a good WC02, was in the FIFA team of the tournament in WC06, bailed his team out in a high pressure must win match in EURO2008, consistently produced the goods for chelsea all of last season when required (and fit, obviously). you're right, hes not a big game player.

and henry - he is only his countries leading all-time scorer. top scorer for his team in WC98. won EURO2000. after ribery, he has been frances best player in this tournament. its not his fault the midfield is non existent. might be past his best, but there is no denying the man is a GREAT player for club and country.

I wouldn't get that excited. All three German goals were the result of terrible defending from crosses. Holland won't gift wrap opportunities like those.

Ronaldo did absolutely nothing in the second half when Portugal needed him the most. Also, the quality of crosses from Simao and Nani (bar one) was awful.
