Re: The Wimbledon Thread
Nadal is now the number 1 players in the world!
But that's not official, is it?

Nadal has won 2 out the 3 slams this year while Fed hasn't won a single one yet.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread
Federer is just such a delight to watch, that it's hard to say that he's not number one anymore. Nadal is just a machine. His ability to retrieve balls from pretty much anywhere on the court is incredible. He's also the fittest, quickest, and strongest player on the tour by a distance.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread
The thing is, everyone says Nadal wasn't great on grass before this year but that's just untrue. He's reached the Wimbledon final 3 times in a row. The truth of the matter is, if Federer hadn't stopped him twice, he'd be a three times Wimbledon champion and he'd be a grass court legend. The only thing that has stopped him from doing that is Roger Federer, one of the greatest grass court players of all time.

federer will be the 'peoples champion' though for the way he plays, its just so much more attractive.

I still admire Roger Federer probably more than any other sportsman in the world, but you can't take anything away from Nadal. He's pretty sensational too.

He will go down as the greatest ever, he will win grand slams even when he is 30!Nadal on the other hand will NOT win any grandslam after the age of 26.Ash wrote:federer will be the 'peoples champion' though for the way he plays, its just so much more attractive.

The same could be said of Federer and the French Open.
There is very little to choose between them, but I feel that Federer's problems against Nadal are starting to become more mental.

No, not any more, but it once was, and that's another sign of how much Nadal's improved since I first saw him. I still do sometimes find Nadal almost impossible to watch when he's playing a bloke who's obviously out of his depth against him, mainly because of all the between-points rubbish he goes through. He becomes boring to watch much faster than Federer or most of the other great players I can remember.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread
Nadal is my favourite player, I tend to favour players like him who haven't a big serve and have to work for their points a bit more.
However, I consider Federer no.1, as Nadal hasn't made an impact on hardcourts and it's gonna be hard seeing him do it, considering his knees. The hardcourt season is getting longer and longer and that's not helping. If Nadal and sneak into the world no.1 slot, before the US open, meaning he can avoid both Federer and djokovic before the final, that will give him a chance.

Djokovic could be pushing for number 1, if he can get over his mental weakness.

Looks like Roddick is doing a bit of Dhoni. Skipping Beijing Olympics to concentrate on US Open while his far more overworked counterparts Federer and Nadal are setting their sights on an olympic medal for their country.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread
Hewitt will be going to the Olympics subject to fitness. He skipped the Athens games to prepare for the US Open, and lost the final to FedEx.
A-Rod's still struggling to overcome that shoulder injury I think. Mind you, the Olympics is a small field, and only comes every four years.
But then again, tennis has always struck me as a little festive.

Olympics tennis will last for barely a week and it comes only once every 4 years.
Mind you Olympics tennis will finish on 11-Aug while US open starts a good 8 days later. I think its more of a case of one's priorities.

Too much money is given to these American sportsmen!
Most of the top basketball players skip the Olympics simply because the money isn't there.

I remember Fed's interview in Jan or Feb of 04 and he said that he had 2 main goals this year a) Wimbledon b) Olympics.
