Darren Pattinson - WTF?
Our selectors have finally gone mad. Why are we picking this guy?
http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/australia/content/player/270253.html
As I said on the other thread - either they have asked him if he would like to represent England or they are calling his bluff much the same way they did with Andrew Symonds.

Sorry, JKL, what has he been chosen for? Surely not a Test squad?

Re: Darren Pattinson - WTF?
And let me guess how he qualifies - by the usual path for Australians in England teams, of not being obviously Aboriginal and having a last name a majority of the England NSP can either pronounce or spell? And of course being crap....

That's a little weird. He can't even get into the Victorian squad. Or the Notts team on some occasions.

No doubt.
But I've also no doubt he's impressed at Trent Bridge as it's been swinging all over the shop this year. 24 first-class wickets at 22.20 and 13 one-day wickets at 17.84.
Hope he tells the ECB where to shove it and that he's a fair dinkum Aussie.

Choice of playing a few ODD games for Victoria next year or training with an England squad? He'll jump at the chance if it's offered. Good luck to him.

The best bit is that he has a younger brother that cricinfo has no idea where he was born.

Younger brother (James?) is supposedly very promising.

Aye. You almost have to wonder whether he has 'connections' in high places at the ECB. Can't for the life of me figure out how a workhorse Aussie bowler who only broke into State Cricket at the age of 28 is now in line for an England ODI debut based on a few wickets in May and June.
How do we even know if he wants to play for England?

If he'll play for Victoria, he'll probably play for anybody.

And has already represented Australia at under 19 level. Imagine the ( albeit highly unlikely) scenario of James and Darren playing against each other at international level.

Re: Darren Pattinson - WTF?
At least they've finally recognised that Sammy Patel's a decent little batsman.
Keysie completes the big-boned quota, though, so there's still no place for Jumbo Sales.
Unless he is there - I've only skimmed through the list...

Re: Darren Pattinson - WTF?
He has been pretty good home and away in all forms of the game. As one of the best bowlers in FC cricket and List-A cricket, I suppose he got himself noticed. I don't agree with the selection, but you have to appreciate that he isn't quite the random coming in off the street that people portray him as. He's a decent, economical opening bowler who has out-shone nearly every bowler both in his side and in Div One thus far. I stress once again that he shouldn't have been selected, but I don't see it as a bad move necessarily to tie him down by the England selectors if they think he might be worth a closer look later on. He won't be in the 15, after all.

It's not the dragging him off the street that gets on my nerves.

Re: Darren Pattinson - WTF?
The whole,"Oh, he's an Aussie who's qualified to play for us, we must pick him" stuff is pathetic. Not all Aussie first class cricketers are the envy of England. look at Dougie Bollinger, and Jim Dawes.
