I see Broad took 3-47.
And that Carbs is back in the runs.
And that Sussex think Luke Sussex is a number 3.
And that Glamorgan are shit.
And that Jones ent rippin them up.
And that Ackermann is carrying Leics again.
And that Zulu has just got out. Boo.

That's pretty mental. Notts have got a lot of all-rounders and maybe they wanted him to rest

Kabir Ali is a monster. I can't believe England are not considering him.

Test bowling average of 27, that's better than most of the current lot.PearlJ wrote:Basil wrote:Glos 283 all out

Of course, he's only ever played one Test, so that stat is perhaps up there with the fact that Anthony McGrath averages 40 as a Test batsman (don't remind Geoff Miller and co. about that last one!)

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Went to Trent Bridge today and came out red as a red thing - I misjudged the weather, it seems. For the first time this season, I think they were batting conditions, but Durham batted poorly and repeatedly threw away wickets. Nottinghamshire went through patches of keeping it tight and leaking runs, but Read maintained very attacking fields and Durham eventually succumbed to their own recklessness.
Shreck returned the best figures of the day, trapping Di Venuto lbw earlier on as he padded up to an in-swinger, and pushing one across Stoneman who was caught behind. I was not, however, that impressed by Big Charlie - he has an annoying habit of bowling trash for five overs on a time followed by hand grenades followed by trash. He picked up the wickets, admittedly, but also bowled regular no-balls and boundary balls.
Stuart Broad racked up at lunch and was probably the best bowler on show. He leaked runs down to third man, inducing outside edges from Ben Harmison in consecutive balls, which went for four, before getting him in the same over.
He also removed the best batsman of the day, Will Smith, who drove loosely and ended up getting the inner-half of the bat on it to provide mid-on with a simple catch. Smith batted beautifully though, displaying great skills of control whilst unfurling some elegant drives through the off-side. I was impressed by him, and also disappointed on that evidence that he chose to move back up to Durham.
Samit Patel also bowled well - his slow left armers are improving and he's now a reliable option. Perhaps he could bowl at 6 for England .
Anyway, Durham played rash shots on a pitch that was okay for batting. There was a bit of shape early on, but things became comfortable later on. Shiva threw his wicket away after looking good in chopping on to Andre Adams, which was a disappointment. Shiv's my favourite batsman and I'd have swapped Smith's 80-odd for a Shiva one instead.
Here's hoping the sun stays out tomorrow. TB seems to be better under sun.

I saw Will Smith play the other week and thought he looked a decent player in the making.

WTF?! Stuart Broad bowling FIFTH CHANGE for Notts?! No wonder English cricket is in the mire.

He was on standby for England this morning and only travelled back to Trent Bridge from Edgbaston once the XI were confirmed as fit and starting.
Under ECB regulations for such circumstances Andre Adams played (and bowled taking Shiv's wicket) in the morning session, before being replaced by Broad at lunchtime.
Broad bowled shortly after lunch, soon picking up the wicket of Ben Harmison.
Doesn't explain how a bloke who is too fatigued to play in a Test match can nevertheless be on standby for that Test and then dash up the M42 to play in a 4-day game later the same day, however.
Disengenuous stuff as usual from England, though most people have become so conditioned to it, that it hasn't even really been raised as an issue.

Aye - was a load of bollocks. He'd had nine days of rest - I'd expect him to be good to go.
England were just trying to justify his demotion.

Yip.
And I don't particularly have a problem with him being dropped at this stage either . . . apart from the fact that England were supposedly trying to bolster the batting by replacing a guy with 352 runs in his last 8 Test innings at an average of nearly 60, with a bloke who had made 39 runs in 4 Tests and 96 First Class runs all season.
Spin, deceit and even downright lies are just part of the England machine now in the same way that they are endemic in modern politics in this country.
Sick of the lot of the illegitimates.

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Agree with that.
I still don't think he's quite found his "style" of bowling yet. He's trying to do too much, mixing it up too much with bouncers, yorkers and moving around the crease. He'll never be a strike bowler, but it feels like that's what he's aiming for.
Back of a length, just outside off stump, six balls out of six, dry the batsmen up, seam away from the right-handed batsman, nip the odd ball back: he'll take loads of wickets once he learns how to be a defensive bowler.

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
That's exactly right, and is why he's performing much better for England as a JAMODI bowler than he is in the Test match arena at the moment IMO.
He's much happier to go defensive in the shorter form of the game, and looks twice the bowler when he does.

The biggest benefit if he learnt to do that is that it would mean that Freddie wouldn't have to flog himself to death trying to be the side's holding bowler as well as the number 1 strike bowler. Getting Broad right could add a year or two to fred.

I get the impression England - or Vaughan - see him as like-for-like with Harmison as a lanky, bang-it-in bowler and ask him to bowl that way.
They're idiots if they do.
They're idiots anyway, but they're even more idiotic if they do...
Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Broad ain't got the pace of GBH - and may never have. It's a tough call to make, but if he has to choose anyone as a role model, its Pidge.

I don't think I saw a bouncer from a Nottinghamshire bowler yesterday, and that includes Stuart Broad. He kept it around off-stump and tied the batsman down. They're pretty wise, really, the Notts. bowlers. Bouncers are wasted on the good pitches of today, or even on seam-friendly pitches.

Blimey, they're playing at Trent Bridge.
I'm only half a dozen miles or so north-west of the ground and it's been absolutely belting down here for the last hour and a half. The road outside now resembles a shallow river.
