Re: English county season 2008 (V)
You're generally not a very good player IMO, if you're averaging those stats in FC cricket, regardless of the format!

I think Luke Wright should be promoted to vice-captain. Not only is he less ginger than Ian Bell, but he's from Sussex!

No comment on Lancs.

AH ha, valid pionts one feel. I reckon the selectors can't read......
Thats got to be the case. Every man, woman and dog are saying the same things and they just keep missing it.
I think we should have a democratic poll to pick the squads, instead of those three inept farquars!!!
not a bad idea ....maybe there should be a place for a the peoples' choice on each national selection panel

Lancs 231 ao, Yorks 59-1 at lunch.
AU Rashid 30.4 - 4 - 95 - 5 (3.09)
Apparently Graeme Swann's been looking over his shoulder that much he's got a stiff neck.

Good to see the lad sticking at it through the season and getting some reward.

I'm not entirely sure why Cork is playing this one.

Is that three five-fors in his last three FC games?
Nice work. Seems that reports of his bowling's demise earlier in the season - that he was now a batsman who turned his arm over a bit - were somewhat exaggerated.
Interestingly, the upturn in his bowling fortunes has coincided with a drop in batting form. The age-old all-rounder's dichotomy...
Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Don't see why Graeme Swann is looking over his shoulder. It's a piddly tour. There won't be many places. Swann is so much of a better OD player - better bowling, better batting, level fielding. Easy to see who'll be going.
Re: English county season 2008 (V)
From what i've seen Rashid shit alls over swanny with regards to fielding. That's your fanboy coming out there....

He's lightning, Rashid, I've seen it myself. Swann's no slouch though and has got a damn safe pair of hands. Still, as an all-rounder, it's pretty immaterial. Batting and bowling is where it's at. And Rashid hasn't the dynamism in his batting or the big-hitting and hasn't the control or subtle variations.
Don't get me wrong, he's bound to become a better prospect in all forms than Swann - but let's not kid ourselves about where Rashid is at now.
Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Sure, I was only picking up on the fielding aspect of Rashids game. I actually think he's one of the better fielders in county cricket so would sh!t over most, not just Swann.

What's to do Peter? Get a move on, declare a 100 in front and go for the win? Or grind out as many bonus points as possible and take the draw?

Two 5s and a 7, very nice work indeed. I think he's made of the right stuff, failure doesn't seem to bother him, that's why I think he's worth a punt at the highest level. If he failed I believe he'd build on that set back and come back even stronger.
I was listening to Nick Knight and co talking about him during todays under 19s game and they said there was such an emphasis on batting these days promising spinners were being turned into batters that bowled a bit. I think Dilo's far too good a bowler for that to happen and with or without his batting he'll be pushing Monty for a place within 18 months.

He isn't looking over his shoulder, I know that, you know that, everybody knows that, but as a Yorkshire/Rashid fan it isn't going to stop me writing it for a larf, is it?
Anyway, 'piddly tour' or not they might take him to gain that all important 'experience'. Double-->

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
Rashid - 11 games, 40 wickets @ 31.45
Kaneria - 8 games, 39 wickets @ 21.4
Saqlain - 10 games, 36 wickets @ 28.36
Swann - 9 games, 23 wickets @ 26.34
Mushy - 6 games, 19 wickets @ 40.89
Needham - 6 games, 10 wickets @ 33.2
Which other top spinners have I forgotten? Anyway, the point is, for a 20 year old Rashid is doing pretty damn well. The stats will only get better as we enter the spinners half of the season. I'd much rather his spinning stayed good and his batting declined than the other way around. If he turns into a Domonic Cork/Darren Gough style lower order basher, I'd be more than happy, as long as his leggies develop.

I dunno if you're being serious or not you grumpy gus. Silly billy at times, you, Geoffers.
Experience is good, though, you've heard numerous players allude to this.
Not sure they'll take him, myself, as I've said in the past England seem to like small squads.

Re: English county season 2008 (V)
3rd washout in a row today at Durham for Notts.
Fark's ferkin' sake.
Will be hoping to scrabble over a few bonus points if the first ball ever gets delivered on the final day tomorrow.
Somerset look set for a decent points haul at Surrey, though probably still via a draw.
Going to be very close to a 3-way tie at the top tomorrow night methinks, with Notts having played a game more than the other two.
Title slipping through our fingers over the last week thanks to the weather.

Pleased he got the call up, but I'm not going to spit venom in the direction of anyone who dares question his credentials or waistline, unlike a certain someone and his pet marshmallow man.

Just watched the highlights of the England U19 V NZ U19 ODI - all I will say is that Rashid will need to be looking over his shoulder in a couple of years time. A certain Mr Beer looks the goods to me.
