PlanetPakistan wrote:How many medals are ENG expected to win?
None. They're not competing.
We compete as the UK.
Between 28-40 medals has been the forecast.
We're strong in track cycling, rowing & sailing.
Now if there were as many events in Track Cycling as there were in Swimming we could even match those sporting fascismo's down under!!

Hard to think of as many different strokes / styles for cycling though to justify the extra events.
Backwards cycling? Unicycling? Penny Farthing 200m sprint? Synchronized cycling?

Our Judo team is not bad either. But we always have plenty of golds at World Championships/Cups and then they fail miserably in the Olympics...

They make up weird names like Keirin & Madison for cycling.
I'm sure we could add some more, no one would notice...

Re: The Olympics Thread
I think we'll struggle these Olympics because we fund our team nowhere near the levels that Great Britain does and our population is relatively low.
We'll smash South Africa though. They perform poorly on the world stage given they have nearly fifty million. They're obviously not that naturally gifted at sport in the way we are.
USA, China and Russia will dominate.

South Africa may have a large population but they aren't exactly wealthy.... Maybe you're just being sarcastic, it's very hard to tell with you.

I'd bank on the latter - Australia will finish 4th in the table on the back of the Swimming alone....

Great finish in the road race. It's a bit bizarre that the Spanish guy who won the Gold Medal after 6 and half hours racing against the best in the world at a mature professional sport has done as well as as the Chinese girl who won gold in the 48kg class weightlifting.

That is one of the things that gets me about the Olympics. Each gold means the same yet some events are so much harder than others.

And who's fault is that. Cry me a river. They have the pathetic ANC leading them. Africa is not poor, just poorly managed to quote one of their leaders at the recent Pan-African conference. But SA is not a poor country, it's resource rich. It's subject are just poor at sport. I notice the SA women are getting whipped at cricket alongside their men.

Not as in Fabulous and Glorious.
