Bit of a worry for the Aust swimmers - Cate Campbell has now choked twice when she was supposed to be a golden girl and poor Grant Hackett is clearly past it.

BTW - I think Hackett's failure today means it is the first time since 1984 that Aust hasn't won a medal in the 400m freestyle.

Re: The Olympics Thread
From the cycling commentary
"When the chips are down then you've got to throw your hat in the ring because the medals are all up for grabs now..."
Do commentators have to go to a special cliché school to learn how to speak such nonsense as this...?

Re: The Olympics Thread
The sooner we get cricket in the Olympics the better. Then the UK can start to make a move to overtake the Soviets and the Yanks at the top of the table. They can't play cricket for shit.

In sports like womens archery you need some eye-candy to make it interesting. But there was none whatsoever.

Solid gold bet. Michael Phelps to win more Gold than Australia - and most other countries. What a machine.
Congrats to Steph Rice on a superb swim, English lass Nicole Cooke in the very wet ladies road race, and to Libby Trickett for getting Aus home for 3rd in the Women's 4 x 100 relay.
Gutsy effort by Aus v Argies.

Re: The Olympics Thread
Phelps is just unbelievable. Apparently that first race was going to be his hardest, and he won by a length!
The only way he won't win 8 is if his teams mates muck up in the relays.

Aye. He's like Thorpe - moves so languidly through the water, yet motors at a remarkable speed.
