Re: West Indies v England, 1st Test, Kingston, Feb 4-8
I watched the highlights. Abject display of batting from the poms, great bowling from Taylor and Benn with some good captaincy by Gayle. What was Collingwood thinking? - is bowled but takes two runs. Then Broad is caught flush off the bat but walks off at snail's pace as if he's just been robbed.
Excellent crowd and they supported their team well.
I wish somebody would tell the pommy commentators that it's homing in on off stump, not honing.

Geoffrey Trueman wrote:furriner wrote:I cannot believe that anyone can blame KP for what happened. His get out shot at 97 was responsible for England's collapse? Dressing room upheavals of his creation were sufficient to demoralize them enough for this loss?
This is the classic syndrome of idiot commentators and guppy minded insiders blaming the only guy who was successful, who showed some ability and grit. Funny thing about group dynamics, how the failures and the experts always seem to band together to pull down the one performer.
How about the rest of the idiots? Maybe they should have also have had the balls to play irresponsible shots at 97. Or 47 even.
And if the girls in the dressing room collapsed like they did today because of loss of morale created by one man, I suggest they try another line of work.
... 9-10, and breathe.
I admit I get pissed off by when people, in trying circumstances, blame their performers instead of apportioning that blame where it should rest.
Although, if I had been really pissed off, I might have buggered of off forum for a while.

Just watched the highlights again.
Stunning display of bowling! Prior and Pietersens wicket were mindblowing!
Maybe Benn isn't so bad after all. Still, I'd like to see how he goes when the pitch delivers little help for the spinners.
Jagger and Wallace should still be given a fair pop.
Collingwood had a brain melt I reckon.

As a saffie, only thing better than the Aussie's current cricketing exploits is the shite performance of the English...OMG, just gotta love it...and people wanna blame KP...you don't give him a fair chance as captain, you go along and pick strauss and he scores how much during this match ?
If i was KP, i would have scored a 9 and 7 in each innings, rather than 97.

1. It would have been very difficult to keep KP as skipper after the foolish way he behaved.
2. Strauss averages 47 as captain.
If i was KP, i would have scored a 9 and 7 in each innings, rather than 97.
Fortunately, KP can also be a mature adult.

Well, we appreciate the help. Makes the upcoming Ashes a real top-draw affair . . . could even be described as a top-bottom affair . . .

I'm sure you'll have your Gump back by then, and you still have some very good batters.
England must start cutting away the dead wood quickly - there are at least four guys who are just not up to it.

Yep, Taylor was phenomenal - inspired, if you like ... the ball that got KP was the best I've seen from a quick for a very long time. The perfect full, late dipping inswinger at speed. KP was doomed the moment the ball left Taylor's palm.DJ_Smerk wrote:Just watched the highlights again.

Errr, Benn DID have a pitch that helped spinners - he made full use of it ... Monty didn't.
Turn and bounce ... hence Benn bowling at 11 am on Day 1 for 35 overs on the trot - turning it square!
Colly ... the least said about that comedy stunt, the better.

Bell (confined to Glendairy and key thrown away) > Shah
Cook (rested) ***
Possibly Jimmy for Harmi, because he is out there, but hey.
*** But they have no others out there, only a sendout system for injuries.

Yeah, he quickened up and was taking wickets for Durham. And then-Captain KP is his mate.

We've got five reserves out there, I think it would send out the right message to select them all. Of course that would mean bringing in Ambrose as keeper, with Prior probably staying in as a specialist batsman. We can still only drop two batsmen at most though, and not quite sure who would open with Strauss if Cook and Bell were both left out.PeterCS wrote:Mine:

Erm, you on the bong, Merls? It were a full leg-cutter that beat the outside edge of his bat (as KP tried to whip it through midwicket) and cartwheeled his off-stump. It was full, pitched, cut away, beat outside edge and banged into off stump as KP tried to work it away to leg.Merlin wrote:Yep, Taylor was phenomenal - inspired, if you like ... the ball that got KP was the best I've seen from a quick for a very long time.
