Rain probably saved us.
About time Qld didn't get any international games after Christmas. Weather is too unreliable in the rainy state.

But at least there were no umpiring decisions that they could bitch about (although there was a close lbw shout early on Ferguson).

Some might say it's too reliable.

Queensland weather is normally much more thunderstormy before Christmas.

Yes but they're transient. Over the years it's been the cyclones even in northern Qld which have influenced the amount of rain in the state. Sometimes there are thunderstorms in the tests before Christmas but the due to the good drainage play can get under way after this fleeting storm blows away.skully wrote:Queensland weather is normally much more thunderstormy before Christmas.

Reckon so, especially with Vettori still in the shed.

Although I understand there have to be rules and systems ... I note that if they'd decided to call it a twenty over job from the outset, they'd probably have got all the overs in.
Also I think the rain will be over by 10:15 pm.

That Guptill chap can play. Fulton, too.
Massey played well, muscling some amazing on-drives for 4.

Re: Australia v New Zealand, 5th ODI, Brisbane, Feb 13
Australia scored far too slowly for the first two thirds of their innings. It seemed every second ball went directly to a well placed fielder. Not even a storming finish could fully redeem their position.
Nw Zealand were desperately unlucky - even the early clatter of wickets was overcome. Every second ball seemed to go to, or over, the fence.
It seems clear that in a shortened game, with a decent pitch, a first innings run rate much below ten is liable to be inadequate.
Australia's was a bit below eight. We need more assertive batting.

Australia's bowling was significantly hampered by the rain, making any comparison of batting by the teams a little more difficult.
Anyway ... 'no result' is the perfect result for the Busted Winker trophy.

Aye. It has become an unfortunate trademark since the demise of MtFTB. We have reverted back to crabbing to 50 or 60 in the first 15 overs of JAMODIs ala the 1980s.peterg wrote:Australia scored far too slowly for the first two thirds of their innings. NZ certainly showed how is should be done last night.

Lardy's right FFS. The two innings were not comparable.

WGAF? It was a draw and we retain the Dutch JAMODI trophy.

I think Kiwis did well for leveling the series given their current crap team and given Aus's home record [of course they are now equally crap and this series had a ring of Zim-Kenya series to it]......
