Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Well they've done alright locally and not bad in the US, but they're they don't have to turn right or brake before the chequered flag so it might be a problem for the engines, the driver, the tyres, the suspension and some other crap that might be important..oh yeah the brakes

They've certainly got them dialled in. Just avoid the temptation to fark with them overnight.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Unless they break, the race will be a doddle for the Mustangs.
But Bathurst rarely goes to plan or is completely trouble-free for the teams.

McLaughlin also needs to break a 10 year hoodoo of the pole-sitter not winning the race.
Garth Tander in 2009 was the last pole-sitter to win the Great Race.

They're all running out of fuel. Should be exciting enough for you.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
It all happened after lap 100. Some dodgy tactics by Penske to hold up the field after a late safety car, but in the end McLaughlin was just too quick.

Will Red Bull regret bring Whincup in for the splash and dash?

Two safety cars, whilst you mightn't have needed a crystal ball they rolled the dice.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Obviously I don't know how close they were to running out of fuel but they were leading at the time so a weird position to roll the dice.

As it turned out, they should've punted on more safety cars. It's almost a guarantee that the Neville Nobodies and Barry Bumfluffs down the field will fark up in the final 10.
Whincup would've surely won.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Interesting development overnight
" ‘Disgraceful’ Bathurst tactics under review as McLaughlin claims controversial win.
The results of the Bathurst 1000 will “remain provisional” as officials seek answers to a “massive” controversy which blighted the race.
Officials are set to re-open an investigation into Supercars driver Fabian Coulthard’s “disgraceful” actions during a late safety car period at the Bathurst 1000.
Stewards will take a second look at Coulthard’s decision to slow down dramatically and hold up the field behind his Ford teammate Scott McLaughlin, who went on to claim his maiden Great Race on Sunday.
Officials hit Coulthard with a drive-through penalty during the race for breach of safety car procedures but will seek an explanation to the “extraordinary increase” in the gap created between Coulthard and McLaughlin’s cars during the safety car lap at a hearing on the Gold Coast next week.
The results of the race will remain provisional until then and while it’s not set to affect McLaughlin’s triumph, it could see a loss of championship points or a fine dished out, per motorsport.com."
----------------------------------------------
Can't see the race result being changed but I can see Penske being hit with some form of sanction. I'm not sure what that exactly means, as they have pretty much wrapped up the Championship and the Constructors title.
It'd be nice if they ordered McLaughlin and Coulthard to tow fridges for the rest of the Championship.

Seemed like pretty clever and opportunistic tactics from Penske to me.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Rule D24.1 prohibits Team Orders and provides that an instruction to a Driver or Team member, either verbal or otherwise the effect of which may interfere with a race result is a Team Order.
Coulthard was very loud on social media defending himself after a tsunami of abuse. He said he was just following team orders and that he is not a dirty driver. Pretty damning comment on the team bosses.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
Stupidly worded rule. Couldn’t any instruction to a driver be seen as being designed to interfere with a race result. Otherwise why are they being given.

Instructions are given to drivers to pit, to conserve fuel, to speed up, etc, etc, all to enhance that driver's result, not to hinder other drivers.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
The rule doesn’t seem to say anything about hindering drivers - just affecting a race result. As I understand it, Coultardt’s actions also protected his own position because he would have been double stacked in the pits.
I really can’t see the problem with it.

Wonder what the outcome of the hearing on the Gold Coast will be.
Result is still provisional until then.

I thought about holding my breath and standing on my tippy toes until the result came through ... but of course I did not. I then found myself laughing a lot.
I really do not get car racing.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2019
As expected McLaughlin didn't have the Bathurst win taken from him, with the Ford team slapped with a points deduction and a heavy fine, over the Coulthard go-slow. Weak.
