Bathurst 1000 2009
The Great Race starts shortly.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Probably a huge woof but I hope one of these guys wins (old 2008 numbers)...

Good luck with that. Arseholes normally don't get to make that journey.

Did Vodaphone just do a Renault/Piquet there? 88 was going like a draughthorse in front of Tander and Murphy while Lowndes in 888 stole a few more seconds in front. The qunt (Thompson) was blue flagged for nearly a full lap but refused to make way. Qunts!!!!

What.a.race!!!!
GT and Davo do it for HRT. Holdens 1, 3, 3 and 4!! Only one Ford in the top 10. [snigger]
7 safety cars meant it was a fingernail biter.

Sort of, Smerky, only 1000 times more interesting. Very evenly matched V8s racing around the fabulous 6.2 km Mount Panorama circuit (the best track in Australia and possibly the world). This circuit rises a few 100 metres from Pit Straight to the top of the mountain. It's an awesome track that many of us Aussies (and visitors) have had the pleasure of driving around.DJ_Smerk wrote:Is this like NASCAR or something?
The race goes for 161 laps, over 6 hours and 1000 kms. It is the premier Production Car race in Australia and NZ.
Here is the start and first couple of laps of last year's race. The guy who bogs down at the start is Garth Tander, the winner of today's race...

Bullsh!t, Nath. I never wanna see a Nissan Godzilla ruin the race ever again. So unless Toyota, Mitsubishi or one of the Korean companies can come up with a decent V8 that Aussies wanna buy (no farkin chance), it remains the domain of the mighty Holden v Ford V8 battles.Nath wrote:needs more manufacturers

Re: Bathurst 1000 2009
So Garth Tander was watching Ben Collins during practice & wasn't much impressed.
When their paths crossed later tander said to him "Stig, schmig, my Mrs could could beat you in this race" ................. and she did.

Can someone tell me the benefits to Mitsubishi of running ads for Tritons during a Ford vs Holden battle?

Damn straight, MB. The ads during the race were infuriating in their frequency. You can just see the bean-counters at 7 rubbing their hands every time a pace car came out. "Another 20 minutes of ads - you beauty". FFS, it was eye-gouging material.embee wrote:Can someone tell me the benefits to Mitsubishi of running ads for Tritons during a Ford vs Holden battle?

I actually know Mrs T's father. I sent him a text after the race saying she must be grouse because she beat the Stig.

Remember when the Minis used to kick the V8's butt.
Good times
Or the days when you could tell the difference between a torana and a falcon.

The old SLR 5000! Every year I'd watch just to see which tree Dick Johnston would hit.
