The England back staff fall over themselves to write that into the "positives" note book......

beamer wrote:Is Flower still favourite for the permanent coach's position? I don't get this "making a positive impression" crap, after this shambles of a tour he should be sent on the first plane back to Zimbabwe.
He'll get it by default as apparently no-one else wants it - except Ashley Giles, but according to my paper he's been told he's not in the running.
Good times.

Breaking news is that they've actually decided to put the Coach...that is, the team bus, in charge.

Would do a better job than those we've had recently...Henry wrote:Breaking news is that they've actually decided to put the Coach...that is, the team bus, in charge.
Seriously though Flower had this tour as a trial to show what he could do. He's so far managed to turn an underachieving team into a totally hopeless one. Being beaten by a better team is one thing, failing to show up at all quite another. The best coaches in the world may not be queuing up for the job at the moment but the ECB need to identify the right man and do whatever it takes to get him.

And can anyone explain why we are giving Batty another go when he has no international future? Rashid might get tonked, but it has got to happen sometime.
They're worried that Rashid will go for six an over (which he probably will), while Batty gives them a solid five-an-a-half runs an over. So there we go. The possibility of Rashid being a wicket-taking option in the middle overs doesn't appear to enter the equation.
But let's not kid ourselves - the old adage about a player becoming better by virtue being on the periphery of the first XI of a shit side - Rashid isn't a perfect fit with one-day cricket. It's not where he's made his name; some handy bowling performances for Yorkshire in the limited overs stuff have been interspersed with more than a few bad days at the office.

Absolutely, but if you're going to lose - at least let it be with some glimmer of hope for the future. All they're giving us is Gareth Batty, who was discarded 4 years ago as no good.

Well, yes, the selection of Batty - even for the Lions - was one of the most dispiriting developments of recent times.
No-one ever moved forward by going backwards.

Quoting meself from another thread:
Another pithy little homily could be "It's England today, India tomorrow".

Awful shot Ronnie. Learn from Shiv, NOT OUT is the way to go, boost the average (not that it really needs it).

Well done WIs. Positive note for England: the loss was not by 10 wickets.

My mate said that England should be taking to the field in white for ODIs... Abject surrender.

Doubt it. Nearest example I can find is this:

I was thinking exactly the same. He started to turn things round for us as captain and put the foundations in place for the success we had under Vaughan. He might not have any coaching experience but is the sort of person we perhaps need in the England setup.JKLever wrote:Demelza wrote:Yes, he'd make a good coach.
