Windies in England, warm up matches
Starts tomorrow:
Leicestershire at Leicester - Apr 20-22
Essex at Chelmsford - Apr 25-27
England Lions at Derby - Apr 30-May 3
Gayle and Edwards are playing IPL until the 1st test, Bravo is apparently not fit enough for international cricket but can play a leading role for Mumbai Indians, while JT and the Shivster are having fitness tests and will arrive in time for the 2nd warm up match. Ramdin will captain the side during these games.
This will leave the batting side for tomorrows warm up looking horribly inexperienced:
Devon Smith
Dale Richards
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Lendl Simmons
Narsingh Deonarine
Brendan Nash
Denesh Ramdin (c)
Darren Sammy
Andrew Richardson
Nelon Pascal
Lionel Baker
I'm planning to go to the 2nd days play at Grace Road so hopefully I will get my first live look at Nelon Pascal.

It's only Kolpakshire though... even that team should be good enough.

In mid April English conditions? They were all playing on roads with no deliveries moving at all just a week ago. I'm hoping we win the toss tomorrow when I can't go, bat out the day and I can watch our pacers in conditions that actually favour them for once.

So if our top order gets shot out to swinging deliveries I should start worrying?

Not really. Flintoff, Broad and Harmison don't swing the ball.

Anderson and Taylor were swinging it with the kookaburra ball on roads. This time last year (actually a bit later in the season if I recall) Jimmy hooped it around corners to rout the Kiwis.

Honestly, if your biggest fear going into the series is Jimmy f*cking Anderson, you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Hang on! apparently, we now have a rotation policy - so that'l be Plunkett, Harmison and Pattinson for the first test. Nailed on!

A Boeing 737 has been hijacked at Montego Bay. 5 crew members have been taken hostage. The passengers are okay.

Not as good as the inability to use excel, but it still might garner a little attention for Demmy . . . what else is there?

What a crap fixture.
Kolpakshire v West Indies reserves.... why bother?
63-1 in the 26th over - riveting stuff

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
78/2 after 30 overs at lunch.
Ramdin is doing his best impression of Prior and has conceded 16 byes in the first session. He very rarely that he gives them up that freely, I think we can put it down to a change in conditions.
Windies bowling attack is Baker, Richardson, Nash, Sammy and Benn. Thank God I'm going tomorrow then, when Windies will be batting (touch wood).

Kolpakshire (tm Lever) 182 all out. Benn took 4/31 and debutant Andrew Richardson took 3/46.
Windies are 20/1. Dale Richards was dropped in the slips and then slapped it straight to cover shortly afterwards.

Actually having seen the scorecard WIFAN, looks like a Kolpakshire youth team!! Hardly recognise any of the names.
At least you should get to see the WI bat tomorrow.

Yeah only Dippenaar can really bat and he was dismissed early by Benn. Sarwan has just been dismissed by young Wyatt. Have seen Richard's dismissal on SSN and Wyatt looks distinctly medium tripe, so it is disappointing to lose early wickets to his ilk. So Windies are 38/2 with Devon Smith and Lendl Simmons at the wicket.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
56/3 Smith out lbw to a finger spinner after surviving the new ball no problem.
THAT is why Barath should have been on this tour and Smith should not. We know all we can about Smith.

80/4 at the close. Smith got a very dodgy lbw having seen it on SSN, pretty obviously missing off stump. He gets out lbw to spinners so often though that his technique is so obviously carp.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
Harry Gurney, supposedly LF, picking up the final wicket of the day.
According to cricinfo, "In early 2008, while playing for Leeds-Bradford University, he showed his promise by removing Michael Vaughan and Jacques Rudolph."
Only played 2 FC matches before today.
I'm sure he'll turn out to be nothing, but you don't see too many people rated left-arm fast in England, so I thought I'd mention him.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
Well, we've had Willeys and Sidebottoms - stupid names don't seem to hamper English cricketers too much.
Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
Just seen the replay of Deonarine's dismissal, Gurney looked pretty nippy to say the least.
Looked like another trigger happy umpire though as deo was well forward and outside the line. Lendl Simmons at the non stikers end was a bit bemused with the umpires decision.
That has pissed me off a tad as I do not fancy watching Brendan Nash bat for very long. I think I will bring my duvet and some pillows.
Dyson has just been on SSN, he does not look happy with the batsmen. He reckons they have wasted a great opportunity to pile on some runs. He also reckoned they bowled awfully with the new ball and had to pull it back through Benn and Richardson.
