He's all looks (bowling-wise). Big-tall lean feller who gets good bounce and carry- can't bowl people out or keep it tight though. Like Harmison really.

Sarwan tried to drive Woakes on the up and edged it to slip. Not the greatest shot it has to be said.

In early season English conditions he would be as good as anyone. Not sure about later in the season in good weather though.......

76/4 at close. Play was stopped 15 minutes early because the sun was in the batsmans eyes. I swear that has happened before at Derby. What a farce!
Shiv and Nash to the rescue. Shiv settling in for bed and breakfast while Nash is in reasonable form and will bore the spectators to tears.

It happens every year at Derby, hence why there are plans afoot to rotate the wicket 180 degrees in the near-future.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
SO what have we learned from day 1?
Absolutely nothing atfuggin all.
- Devon Smith is still carp and taking up Barath's rightful place.
- Simmons still should not open the batting but bat at 4.
- Sarwan is still too aggressive at the start of his innings.
- Shiv is still God.
- Most of our fringe players are still clueless against the moving ball.
I really hope the bowling of Pascal will give us a positive to talk about by this time tomorrow.

The worrying thing for the future of English cricket was that in Woakes you had a young bowler mostly untouched by the ECB's fast bowling coaches, and in Mahmood and Plunkett, you had two products of the system. Guess who took all the wickets?

That's so the sun will be in the batsman's eyes from the other end, right?Augustus wrote:It happens every year at Derby, hence why there are plans afoot to rotate the wicket 180 degrees in the near-future.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
Just realised this. Gus was talking about Direby. It's entirely possible they think that rotating the pitch 180 degrees will work.Big_Bad_Bob wrote:Zat wrote:I know what he meant, but where's the fun in that?Big_Bad_Bob wrote:Zat wrote:That's so the sun will be in the batsman's eyes from the other end, right?Augustus wrote:It happens every year at Derby, hence why there are plans afoot to rotate the wicket 180 degrees in the near-future.

Re: Windies in England, warm up matches
Derby probably don't want to move the pitch as the lack of blinding sun could well deny them a few last gasp draws as they battle to stay off the bottom of division two.

Which places the Slurrey scumbags where exactly (?) ... after Direbie thumped them last week ?

Those wickets include those of Shiv and Nash which is impressive no matter how you spin it, conducive conditions or not.

You still confident of retaining the Wisden Trophy here in England under English conditions on greentops, WIfan ?

Well we shall see what happens when JT and Fidel get on a greentop to bowl. What is for sure is that the fringe batsmen are struggling BIGtime. As they picked the wrong batsmen in the first place it is not massively surprising.
I don't forsee the Lords test being too much of a problem. It's the Durham test that may prove problematic.
The two bits and pieces players are at the crease and have forged a massive partnership of 20:D. Given the selections of teams so far it will probably be enough to get them both in the test lineup.

170/8 at lunch
Dave Bernard Jr fighting back. Still don't rate him and he shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, but he is at least providing a morale boost.

203 all out, 59 to Dave Bernard Jr and a nice little cameo from Suliemann Benn took us to an okish but ultimately disappointing score.
