He wrote an article for Cricinfo recently. I've flagged it up in this thread somewhere, cba checking.

He is a legend.

Ponting in his recent danger zone now - the last half a dozen times he's reached 70 he's only gone on to 100 once (and that was only 101).

Just a question, I've not been able to watch todays play, but how many massive non-lbw worthy appeals has Monty made?

203/1.

Aussies will want to turn it on tomorrow to gain a decent lead come Tea, especially with an impending washout on Saturday.

England's batsmen not quite on their A game.

England's bowlers not quite on their A game.

That's a recipe for success...

No idea. But the only certain way not to get a wicket is not to appeal...

I was in the knowledge that Monty was an educated and astute lad?

This was 3 years ago though, when he bowled WELL.

Seems the trip to Australia finished him off.

I thought it was playing for Northants.

PS - One thing Monty is NOT ... and that's astute.

He didn't follow the county stuff.

Well, it seems he tried to introduce some variety to his game and it didn't work so he's basically had to go back to plan A, which I guess everyone had worked out.

Question is do you have to have variety to be a successful Test spinner in the long term, do you have to have changes of pace, doosras, mystery balls in your game? If the answer is yes then can players learn that mid-career or do you have to gamble on picking those with the variations and hope they learn control rather than the other way round?

In terms of the appealing, well as I said before, you don't get an LBW if you don't appeal, so if you're not having any luck then why not try a few and you might get the benefit of an umpiring shocker which could help your confidence return!

Monty needs to learn to appeal without blocking the umpires vision, especially for LBW's.

So, is this a 600 pitch that our batsmen failed to take advantage of? Or just down to the usual failings of our bowlers to get anything out of it when it doesn't swing?
