Zat wrote:Wouldn't say heroic. Overblown, in much the same way as Lee's 'chainsaw charlie' is. But it was a good catch by Prior, which will probably go unnoticed because it was the fat lipped freak who did the bowling.
You can almost live with Lee's chainsaw but it's always looked a bit pathetic when he claims a tailender who's been flaying him to all parts and his figures read two for a million.

A heroic pose for one wicket? I'd call that overblown. Just like when Lee gets his first wicket in the innings. A number 9 batsman, with his figures 0-180 and the opposition closing in on 600. Sure, celebrate, but have some perspective.PeterCS wrote:Overblown : sooky comment of the day?
I meant a "heroic pose" - teh pose fo a gladiator. Unlike your good self, I don't make every comment subjective!

Katich playing well. He could be the bedrock of a looooong Aussie innings if the England bowlers don't do a decent job.

Oh god, I've simulposted with Red. I think that's a good sign I should get off the forum for the night.

Of course it's subjective you goose. You called it 'heroic', Zat called in 'overblown' and I call it gay.PeterCS wrote:Overblown : sooky comment of the day?

You post way too much crap to have thought them through to the point of being subjective.PeterCS wrote:Unlike your good self, I don't make every comment subjective!

Fast bowlers are not noted for decorum and modesty.
A mixture of testosterone and working their arses off, for variable reward. A wicket tastes good to a quick.

Re: Prior's catch, I was listening to Alec Stewart talking a lot of sense about the subject the other night; how when Prior gets runs, people take it for granted because that's his strength, but if he drops a catch, people are all over him. Now, if he fails with the bat, people accept that because he does score runs a lot of the time.
In contrast, someone like Read can drop a catch, and no-one says anything, because he's usually very good, but every time he fails with the bat, he gets slaughtered.
It's quite true as well.

Quack hiss.
As explained above (if you bothered to read before writing), I was describing a typical gladiatorial pose. Not singing a twisted hymn of praise to showmanship.

When he bats he looks in shock every ball, and of course he plays like that too.
If he doesn't take wickets he's more of a liability for being there than playing one short.

Not quite as Arlott said of Asif Masood: "he approaches the wicket like Groucho Marx chasing a pretty waitress."
