Graceless, whingeing, arrogant Aussie no. 4027

This week it's....Damien Martyn.

Was just flicking through the latest copy of Wisden cricket monthly and blimey has Damien Martyn served up a right old bitter piece of w*nky hubris for an interview. Can't find the full text online but here's the edited highlights:

If you don't want to follow the link- basic summary- we lost because of the umpiring, the Ashes wasn't a priority, I got loads of bad decisions, the coach was rubbish (fair point that one), I could be playing test cricket today but I umm... can't give a convincing reason because my skull cavity mainly contains very dense air.

I always thought he was a bit vanilla- but alas he's just like the rest of them.

I think that Australia were focussing on the away series to India as the bigger challenge than the Ashes. After all, the Indians were giving them a fight, whereas we couldn't for 16 years.

Don't try to rationalise his comments- that's not fair- he has not shown sufficient grace and self-depreciation in failure and so is a pitiful b*stard.

Gilchrist did much better in that regard. He's the sort of Aussie we like.

Marto always was thick as pig sh!t.

Martyn was a tool. And still is, going from what I've seen of him on the teev during this Ashes series.

He always was one of the most disliked people in Australian cricket. His arrogance is hardly news, though. On the 1993 ashes tour, he apparently went around telling everyone that he was 5 times a better batsman than Mark Taylor, and should have been in the team ahead of him.

Until now he had always seemed a bit non-descript to me (generally failing to live up to his obvious talent); but now thanks to FB it is clear that he is............simply.............A QUNT!

You can't rattle off countless "positive" cliches or give your opinion of what went on ...so the only option is to thank the people who made lovely cakes for afternoon tea

But this is Martyn we're talking about mb. He fits right in alongside Magoo on the teev.

I really knew nothing about Martyn until 2005; but over that series he looked like someone who had loads of talent but was simply out to lunch all the time.

Maybe he had one dodgy decision, but I remember him wafting carefree a la Gower (but not quite that much talent) and getting out to half-baked half-hearted shots. He also was involved in one run out which he should never have called for.

Maybe talented, maybe a more talented bat than The Great Capt. Tubby, but Tubby made it count and as far as i recall was in no way A QUNT like the QUNT Martyn is.

Careful on the Q's ds. There's been a bit of discussion about them recently.

Actually, just thinking about it and reading our Subcontinental Friends' comments about the article below the article (ie not our Subi Qunt friends here); the business about The Ashes not being a priority says it all. That is one of the main reasons Oz lost and I think a number of Oz fans and players have conceded that. Some of the team took their eye off the ball. England would be a pushover again (and Lords reinforced this) so lets think about India and ponce about Europe bonding.

As well as being a whinging tosser himself, Martyn also dinspired the greatest sook-off in the history of internet forumming (on the night he retired), beating the previous record set when he was dropped after Ashes 2005.

Tubby was the least quntish player of all in the past 20 years of Aus cricket.
