Re: The UK General Election Thread
We need to keep those banks definitely but the Tories don't believe in state ownership. I'm starting to think we need a hung parliament just to keep the status quo for a year....

HTF do you determine what price is right to sell the banks at Lever ?
Where would you draw the P and L line ??
At the exorbitant price Darling paid for them .... ? An impossibility for at least 20 years ...
Or at a time when the economy might need it most?
Between a Rock and a hard place I'd say, wouldn't you?

When we can sell for more than the taxpayer bought them for. They could be extremely profitable if we just kept them and reaped the dividend each year for a bit too. Common sense would say sell them in better times economically.
My one huge problem with the Tories is giving this guy the purse strings...
Why the fark is Ken Clarke not shadow chancellor? He may look like an alcoholic tramp but he was a damn fine chancellor.

Osborne won't be there for too long IMO.
The relationship with the boy David is stronger than that between Our Tone and Bwown ... however, Clarke is hovering in the wings and has the support of a lot of Tory backbenchers.
I agree, Ol' Brouge himself would be a good man to have in the Treasury ... but for his strong undisguised EU leanings.

Even by tory standards he looks like a particularly pig faced c*nt b*stard.

There was a jokey element to that photo, there's no joke in the first one.

Just think, that one photo has the future PM and the mayor of London in it. And Tom is right, they are farking arrogant and have no social consience.
One thing i'll say for the Tories is they usually clear up the financial mess left by Labour governments, but they don't care who they sh!t on whilst doing it.

How do you know? Where you there? What difference does it make. Both are straight out of Evelyn Waugh - one is Brideshead Reviisited, the other is Decline and Fall or maybe Vile Bodies

I'm much the same, my family will almost certainly be better off under a tory government but I've never been a huge fan of shitting on those less fortunate than myself.Eric Air Emu wrote:Merlin wrote:Chip off shoulder time Lever ....

When all else fails try a bit of class warfare with the Tory Manifesto straight out of Dickens' Hard Times! Wonder how they managed to win so many elections if they were so busy grinding the faces of the poor into the mire and I wonder why income inequality is so much greater after 13 years of NuLabour. Of course we might all be rescued by these friends of the labouring poor:

The person behind the counter replies, "Your timing is amazing, Sir. We
just got a listing from a very wealthy man who wants a chauffeur/bodyguard
for his nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive around in a big
black Lexus, and all the suits, shirts, and ties are provided. Because of the
long hours of this job, meals will also be included; and you will also be
required to escort the young lady on her overseas holiday trips. The

"You're havin' me on!" replies the incredulous Liverpudlian.
"Well," the clerk behind the counter says. "You started it."

YouGov tracking poll, released early due to debate:
CON 34%(nc), LAB 27%(nc), LDEM 28%(-3).
No impact from Duffy Affair - but polls seem to be settling in pattern of Tories narrowly in front with Labour and Lib Dems jostling for second place. No sign of an overall majority but Labour may be affected by a two-way squeeze from the Tories and Lib Dems.

George Osbourne pulls out of Question Time tonight.
Of course. Wouldn't want the potential Chancellor of the Exchequer being publicly scrutinised on the particulars of the Tory's economic plans after the leaders' debate on the economy...

That's an interesting view, vilks. In what way would your family being better off mean they were "shitting on others less fortunate" ?
Please don't make the mistake of thinking everyone with right wing views has some kind of character flaw. When it comes to shitting on others less fortunate, the current crop of government ministers voted year on year for 20+% pay & pension increases while holding the remainder of PS workers to single figure inflation rises. Slate the Tories by all means - but don't believe that socialists can't be just as greedy and venal once they get their feet in the trough.

I agree with both of these points, I have friends who hold right wing views and are by no means qunts (well maybe a little). I've also flirted with different views to the ones I currently hold and am open to changing them.Growler wrote:vilkrang wrote:I'm much the same, my family will almost certainly be better off under a tory government but I've never been a huge fan of shitting on those less fortunate than myself.Eric Air Emu wrote:Merlin wrote:Chip off shoulder time Lever ....

I've never actually voted Labour strangely enough though I have voted Tory in the past. I'm not convinced that they are what the country needs right now but if they do manage to get in and do a decent job then fair play to them.
I'm really struggling on who I'm going to vote for still, it will probably be Lib Dem but their defence policies scare me.
Anyway, debate time...
