Re: Pakistan players demand hockey World Cup boycott
I am not concerned about any rumours that people with spread in the fallout of events but I think a certain level of tolerance has been breached by Pakistan where terrorism is concerned and I am among many Indians who believe it's time to pull all plugs till the country mends it's ways. Not just IPL. We also don't want any more Pak fans entering the country disguised as cricket fans on false visas and documents and vanishing in the crowd to push anti-India activities, fake Indian currency and trying to set up terrorist sleeper cells. And I will be brutally honest about this. There should be no India-Pak sporting or cultural exchanges till the army/govt establishment cleans up the anti-India jihadi mechanism they set up.

are you serious? india and pakistan have not had formal talks since 26/11/08. all peace talks are off till india sees some change in pakistan's position vis-a-vis terrorist camps

you may not have to pay them. but you also cannot get a new player in place of that pakistani player if he doesnt make it. you are basically left with one player short

i would disagree in the case of only one spot for a big player being up for grabs in each team. if this was a full auction with a full squad being selected by each team then yes its worth a risk. also the chances of a pakistani player getting a visa in this climate is not the same as a windian or a south african
pollard, bond, parnell seem a lot more attractive since they are guaranteed to get visas. the pakistanis are not
Akmal (not sure which one) had a price of $100K ...they are both tonkers ...unlikely to be any rival bidders ...bargain ...if he cant turn up ...havent lost much

no pak cricketer has played in india since 26/11
no one knows if they will be given visas or not
hence the results at the auction

How do you know that no terrorists disguised as cricket fans will sneak in just because no Pakistani players are in the IPL?

And the fact is that most Indian fans really are not keen to have anything to do with Pakistan for a long long time.

Yep, fully agree with that. Indian lives are far more important than this silly IPL.

Do the Pak players need to be contracted before they can apply for a visa?
If more Indians are bashed in Oz ....are Australians likely to be refused visas to play?

pakistani cricket fans can get visas only if there is a match involving pakistan in india. so it doesnt really matter anyways since bilateral ties are snapped. they would not get visas for the ipl if their players played in it or not. so thats a bit of a moot point
after the events of the last few tours i doubt they would even get visas if the pakistani team played in india. not till things change for the better anyways

you would need to ask the immigration dept. on whether they need to be contracted. they would have to give a valid reason to travel to india so i guess they would have to be
on your second point if india-aus relations reach india-pak levels then maybe. but you would have to do a lot more than bash a few indians for that, so up your game

until Banindia arrests its population growth with a one child policy, eliminates dowry murders and addresses the national obsession and discrimination based on skin colour - all sporting ties should be severed

not the first time he's wrong. they travel on valid documents (at least the visa is valid, dont know if the pakistani passport is their real identity) but then dont see the match and dont go back to pakistan. this was a big problem on the previous tours

Looks like a whole load of escalation between Pakistan and India caused by both govts failing to clarify whether visas would be issued ...

Re: Pakistan players demand hockey World Cup boycott
i dont think any government comments on whether they will issue visas to specific people. all a government can say is that the application will be accepted and then considered on its merits
but there would be huge uncertainty regarding pakistani players under the current climate. the same fears were not there in 2008 and loads of pakistanis played. 2011 may be possible if there is a resumption of talks between the two countries and plus every team will have to pick a whole new squad anyways, instead of just one player

The Commonwealth games will happen. But I fear it may be a disaster. Not on account of Pak but on account of the poops running the show and trying to get the games village up after missing numerous deadlines.

My reference was to the Pak tour of India in 1999 and 2005 when scores of Pakistanis who came in to watch the matches vanished and remain untraceable. That doesn't mean they aren't sneaking in illegally from Nepal and Bangla borders either. It's a huge unfortunate problem for us. The present Govt. is the softest and most inept in dealing with this menace.

In a 'goodwill' gesture, our stupid Govt. had in between announced a visa on arrival facility to Pakistan where they could submit proofs and documents on arrival on business. A majority who arrived never reported back and a large number of documentary proof like identity and address was later found to be bogus. The ISI and jihadis have a huge network of setting up false trails and identities to enable their sleeper cells enter India undetected with some kind secret official support. This was also true of the people who vanished who arrived to watch 'cricket' matches.
