I backed Paco Boy in the Lockinge & he was a class above that field (although Ouqba ran quite well) but can he match it with Goldikova & Rip Van Winkle?
I guess the other race is between Makfi, Canford Cliffs & Dick Turpin. Thoughts?
I'm hoping there will be a lot of drunks betting on the treble at 11.30pm our time & it might pay better than it really should.
Honestly can't see anything beating Head's consistent Goldikova - she's a class act ... though I think Paco Boy (my personal favourite horse) will run her close despite giving her 3 lbs. O'Brien's sweet on Rip Van Winkle ... though I'm not sure ... RVW needs winding up and has been off-course 220 days coming into this hot race.
The St James's is a muddler of a race over the Round Mile (big diffo from Newmarkets straight mile). With O'Brien having 3 in the race, bet on Beethoven making the pace for Steinbeck and bolting off into the lead ...if they don't catch him, then collect at 80/1 !! But Canford kicked Steinbecks ass 5 lengths in the Oirish 2000 Giuneas ... so forget O'Briens trio.
Dick Turpin for me (15/2 tissue) - a big rounded horse that will handle the bustle and manner of the race with the frenchie Mafki and Canford to follow him home.

Thanks again. I backed Dick Turpin when he ran second in France but the colt that won that made the form look good by bolting in next start in Prix du Jockey Club.

Are you going to the meeting Merls? If so, you should bring a www.flamingbails.com banner to hang over the fence near the winning post.

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Noted ...interesting.
Dry, Sunny, Good to Firm surface ... should be a cracking day's racing!
I'm looking forward to the 2M4F marathon stamina-sapping Ascot Stakes (5PM)where Ghimaar will be a hot fave but I like the look of Elyaddi (12/1) who "ran on strongly" over 1M6F last time to win a decent race going away
Not going today WW - but I am tomorrow .... along with 4 rabid racing fans!
A flamingbils banner huh .... don't think I'll get past the wily gateman who knows us only too well !!!!
Is Ascot on TV over there?
Anyway ... Good luck, and enjoy!

Rabid racing is great. Take a couple of greyhounds with you. That will get those rabids running for their lives.
.... and yes, Ascot will be on Sky over here. I'm looking forward to it. Might even take a trifecta in the Ascot Stakes with those horses you mentioned & a couple of others. We get all sorts of meetings. Tonight there is flat racing from Compiegne & jumps racing from Auteuil in France. Last night we watched Carlisle races. Not that I would ever be tempted to bet on them.
Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks mate!
Aye, rabids ... all of us!!
Yeah, we too have some wierd and wobbly coverage from strange Frenchie tracks, Dutch and Aussie trotting races, dross from the US (yet strangely never any notable Aussie flat meets other than the MC and the Caulfield !) - and I too steer away from all of them - gets far too much when the bookies lump in with 2 Dog meets and 2 Virtual racing "meets" - alongside the regular 4 daily UK meetings ... drowning in dire dross IMO!
Am actually a Jumps racing fanatic, and go to meets a lot ... Cheltenham, Ascot, Haydock, Aintree etc .. and can't wait for September.

Goldikova won the Queen Anne narrowly from Paco Boy with Dream Eater third at big odds. Trifecta paid $100.30 in Qld but better on the southern TABs.

Yep, fair and square win for Goldie, grabbed the rail with 1 F to go and flew ... though Paco Boy ran his heart out - as usual.WideWally wrote:Goldikova won the Queen Anne narrowly from Paco Boy with Dream Eater third at big odds. Trifecta paid $100.30 in Qld but better on the southern TABs.
Kingstand - serious traffic problems 1F out - lost Kingsgate Native the race ... Nacconi given too much to do - but the brave 8 yo Borderlescott nips 3rd @16's !!
Good winner in Equiana ... bolted up.

Is Leve just saying he is not a fan, or is there some deeper sedition afoot here?

Equiano has put a bit of value into the treble here. I don't think Queensland punters realised how classy he was until they heard the pre-race comments & by then the first leg had been run. As a result approximates are Canford Cliffs $64, Dick Turpin $147, Makfi $78.

Leve's contribution to sedition involves emigrating to Scotland and stirring up all the Bravehearts that inhabit the backwoods there!
PS - Have a bit of Dick Turpin WW ... though Canford is well liked here.

I have all three alive in the treble but Dick Turpin would be the best result.

........... and Canford Cliffs wins from Dick Turpin.
Needless to say Canford Cliffs paid the least of my three chances in the treble. Still a handy profit.

Damn!
Richard Hannon 1 / 2 ... but the wrong way round!!
Class horse Canford - cruised past his stablemate effortlessly...
Mafki and the O'Brien trio well beaten.
Nice one !!
... I have Paco, Borderlescott and Dick Turpin in my e/w lucky 31 .... going on Callisto Moon @16's in the 5 o clock!

Were you confused by the thread title? Granted it was pretty ambiguous and gave little indication of what the thread may contain

Who will be watching the big one tonight (Australian time)? I have been waiting for Byword to reappear ever since his great second to Goldikova in Prix d'Ispahan. He is up against a classy field in the Prince Of Wales Stakes but I think he can win it.

Classy-ish field WW ... though not the best PoW Stakes IMO ... Byword should take it (on Goldikova form over shorter), though Cecil is sweet on Twice Over whilst Gosden rates Debussy (20/1) as a lively outsider.
