Aye Smerks. In fact without them there in the coming ashes series, I expect Belf to do OK.

Plus, he's so small Hilfy and Co might not see him, think they're in a bowl-off and bowl slow, deliberate dobbers on the stumps.

Not saying that Belly won't misjudge a few and get LBWed, bowled or caught behind for 4, 9, 0, 21, 3 and 1 before being dropped, ... but still ... .

I still chuckle at those 3 plumb lbw decisions not given off of Johnsons bowling at Edgbaston.

Aamer will show him who's boss. He'll find that gaping hole in his technique and will profusely exploit it, over and over again.

Shazhad to make debut - makes sense I guess. Not really sure he's a test player but worth a look.

Kind of makes sense, Yorkshire's second best all-rounder is injured so England call up our third best all rounder. If Shahzad gets injured I would expect either Richard Pyrah or Anthony McGrath to get a game against Pakistan.

Good old Belly. Another pressure innings yesterday. Ok, so it was only the Bangers, but England were hardly cruising when he came to the crease- They were 90-3.

With the benfit of hindsight, this would have been the ideal opportunity to have blooded Adil Rashid as part of a five man attack. he would enjoy bowling on this pitch.

And 'The Point' is absolutely hideous. Looks like some weird piece of 'revolutionary' architecture......from the 1970's. And who's bright idea was it to paint it red?

It's strange that his average against Aus is that low because barring 2005, he seems to have been pretty consistent in ashes contests.

Did they start early? Or is Belf taking the long handle from ball 1? Seems to be rattling along.

Played Belf.

Still, his average drops to around 37 if you take out his Bangla bashing.

2005 - 17
2006/07 - 33
2009 - 28

Fair enough to say he still has to prove himself against the Aussies...

I'm going to call that a dropped catch, commentators said it dropped short but that's only because he didn't have his hands further forward.

His 06/07 average perhaps indicates in the absence of TGM and tgm he may do OK.
