The next election could be Corbyn v Boris Johnson, so very much a choice of devil or deep blue sea (but the Lib Dems would still get <10% of the vote!) These party splits can’t come soon enough.

aka Boremy v Jeris?
Devil or the deep blue sea is a mild construction of that choice.
Both are loons. Both are diabolical. Both are dangerous.
I find Corbyn to be a complete and utter abject disgrace. He has been completely compromised since running dead in the campaign over the first referendum. Personally I apply a higher standard to middle of the road social democrat radishes than Tory types. On the remain-leave issue he was happy to run dead and so tacitly supported leave. The man is the most rotten chancer of a class traitor. His personal interests and hubris allow no room for even a modicum of historical analysis or responsibility for his country, Europe and peace. Dickens and Shaw would have a field day with this bloke.
I confess to a bias against his name. I have never met a Jeremy I have liked. They have all been as reliable and cunning as a shithouse rate. Look at Corbyn and Clarkson! The only possible exception as a decent honest very public figure is Ron Jeremy.
Johnson is a putrid, lying, incompetent representative of a small fraction of ruling class interests. I expect those interests will take him out on the basis of his incompetence and install Gove.

So, the UK today has signed a trade deal with Switzerland. Together with the deal done with the Faroe Islands, this accounts for 3% of UK trade. I think I will organise a street party.

Apparently Chile is also signed up. So we have cheese, chocolate, fish and red wine. Most of the essentials, at least

China has pulled out of trade negotiations with Pomgolia after some duffer UK Minister threatened to send a gunboat over there. Hopefully the gunboat was not the invisible ferry service another Minister paid 800,000 quid for.
In another week of 'ripping yarns', May lectured schoolkids who took strike action about the lack of action on climate change for wasting lesson time.
(mind you yesterday our simultaneous interpreting PM was holding his nose as he toured flood stricken parts of Nth and W Queensland - it is unknown whether he was carrying a harmless lump of coal or whether it was simply in his baggage)
I just read the attached Guardian article poking a bit of black obsydian stick at the ERG, May and Corbyn bears. The article has some classic lines. Highly recommend giving it a read.

Yet the Tories could narrowly win an election, such is the paucity of Corbyn's leadership (or lack of it).

Yes!
I really liked these lines from the Guardian article.
And yet, the Tories continue to poll ahead of Labour. It’s always encouraging to hear Corbyn boosters honk about how much they’d expect him to put on in a campaign situation. The slightly incredulous response has to be: um, yes?! I should hope so?! I mean, you would hope that anyone might improve on losing to a party that is essentially a gif of someone lighting their own fart and then being consumed by the fireball.

The Guardian sits somewhere to the left of Chairman Mao. The articles are not exactly objective.
Re: UK politics thread
Big Dog, it was satire! Corbyn is apparently* to the left of the middle of the road Guardian.
Probably too late but you might find it interesting to read about the multiplicity of views on the left.
Calling the Guardian as to the left of Mao is akin to calling every Liberal voter a fascist (though some may well be).

one of out of those three is ok, but he strikes me as an unprincipled manipulative tosser and I expect his approach to socialism is rather idiosyncratic.

Re: UK politics thread
He was one of the only MPs to escape completely unblemished by the expenses scandal. 8.95 for a printer cartridge when it was all going down, nothing more. Look it up. Here's what this "unprincipled" chap was doing in the 80s, compared to good old Dave and Borris:
You can disagree with his policies or his leadership, but unprincipled isn't really accurate.
He gets f*cking annihilated in the press, which I presume is why he has such a bad rep. Tripe like this:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-3233237/ANDREW-PIERCE-Corbyn-cost-3m-far.html
Essentially a story about how he has been paid a wage all of his life, the same wage as every other MP. How dare he! The criminal! No mention as to him being the lowest expense claimant during the expenses scandal.

Vilks - my comment on 'unprincipled' was related to how he ran dead during the Referendum. At times such as that you have to nail your colours to the mast and he did not. And yes, he is an admirable ascetic who provides a stark contrast with Blair.
Great photo by the way. No wonder Taipan is not a fan. Still all manner of people in England and Oz supported and took action against the South African regime.

Re: UK politics thread
First I have heard about him protesting against apartheid, but suspect he was merely climbing on the bandwagon.
I dislike him as he appears to have absolutely no policies of his own and merely comments on opposition errrors. He clearly puts his own interests ahead of the Country's. His misogynism and anti-Semitic views are another matter.

Nigel - what evidence is there is to suggest bandwagon behaviour?
... and what is a bandwagon anyway, beyond groups of disparate people coming together to support a common cause? People gain confidence from the actions of others.
The despicable Springbok Tour here emboldened all manner of folk to come out and oppose the tour. Many erstwhile conservative folk had recourse to ruefully examine bruises and more serious injuries (following baton attacks) after venturing out and nailing their flag to the human rights mast.

PMSL at Angela Smith though, apparently they've left the party partly due to racism and anti-semitism and on the very same day she uses the phrase "funny tinge" to describe people who aren't white .
This feels like an episode of The Thick of It.
